Star Cruisers seem to be out of the question as they feel out of place; a 2D starship floor plan in a world of spherical maps. But what if you could pilot entire asteroids/moons and deck them out with inter-planetary weapons (Planet to Planet missiles for example.) So Player 1 sends heavily armed asteroid outfitted with unit cannons to attack Player 2's base. Player 2 sees asteroid-spaceship coming and sends his own to intercept. Player 2 uses huge (grappling hook, tractor beam, gravity generator?) to stop Player 1's asteroid. Player 2 invades and tries to either destroy player 1's base or build enough Halleys to send player 1's asteroid into the sun/a planet. Player 1 tries to destroy Player 2's immobilization device and free his own asteroid by any means. In Galactic War you could fly an asteroid from one solar system to the next acting as a home base for you to stage invasions of other planets. Given the enemy commander's bases would already be set up for the most part so they wouldn't be immediately overwhelmed. Here's the big picture: You and your clan are ready to assault the enemy faction's homeworld. They are heavily dug in with land, sea, air, and orbital defenses en-mass when suddenly 4 asteroids appear in orbit around and start raining down troops with unit cannons. But the enemy was prepared and overwhelms your forces with an army of tanks and bots. One of your clan members decides to evacuate his forces and sacrifice his asteroid by crashing it into the enemy's base wining the battle for you. After conquering the planet you scan for TECH and make improvements / repairs to your bases accordingly. Then you escort the clan member who sacrificed his base to the nearest asteroid belt where he begins construction of a new FOB (Forward Operating Base). Why this is a good idea: This allows for full customization of a FOB and serves as transportation from solar system to solar system. Because after you just built up that enormous empire taking down your last enemy why would you start from scratch? Why couldn't you carry troops from your previous engagement to your next? Plus if the solar systems you conquered remained constant you could go back and pick up reinforcements that were building while you were away. And enemies could attack while you were away. What do you think? Let me know below.
NO. THIS IDEA IS A BLATANT DISREGARD FOR THE... Uhhh... welll... hmmmm. FINE. I'll let you in on it. they're already working on it, and it was in but buggy a few patches ago. Then removed, due to excessive buggyness.
I love the concept of a tractor beam thing built on one planet that keeps another static. Good incentive to invade and kill it before you could carry on. Also, sounds like FUN!
missing feature is usage of distance factor for interplanetary nuke usage rather than orbital gimmik.
