Now that the game is going to be funded >40K Any ideas on Alpha? like ETA? Is it a real alpha or just an early beta? I KNOW this is early, (Still flooding my news feeds with PA updates.) but it just seems like the next step after funding. :)

I'd say lets wait for Kickstarter to end. Either we get some information while or after the funding is complete.
I think they have to see what their budget is (strechgoals) and then finish planning before we can get ETA.

We build games using iteration and rough timing. Alpha will be sometime before beta which will be before release next summer.

Considering they made a specific mention between Alpha and Beta, and because Uber won't be bound by any publisher they can show and share as much or as little as they want really, I suspect it may only start out with like in depth updates and possible exclusive screenshots and vids and maybe gear up to playable builds near the end, NDAs are also likely as well. Beta I suspect will be focused on playable builds in order to really start getting at the bugs.

I guess the alpha will be in 10 months...
Anyway, Uber should take the time it needs to create the most amazing rts game ever. So I will not bother asking about release dates or whatever!

I'm excited, I just hope they stick to their release schedule. I'd be pretty upset if they release Beta before Alpha.

Well in my opinion Alpha comes before Beta, everytime.

Otherwise it would be like taking something out of the fridge before opening it :D

They're talking about making the entire game in less than ten months, so I'd wager we'd probably see an alpha a fair while before that. At the very latest I'd say sometime around March for the Alpha.

I'm still very skeptical about the 10 months development..
Lets hope for the best :D

How long do you think TA took?

now that is an interesting question :p, I won't cheat...

back in the old days I think the development went relatively fast, as the art side of older games was relatively simple. And gamedesign itself was pretty young, and maybe rushed through more than nowadays

I'll say 1.5-2 years? I can be so far off XD

Edit: Cavedog was founded in 1996 and TA came out on 30 september, 1997
That sounds pretty much like 1.5 years woot XD

TA started dev with just Chris and then Clayton soon after in late 1995. The rest of the team started around June/July of 1996 and then shipped the game in late 1997. It was basically a year with a bit of conceptual and engine building time beforehand.

And back in these days the challenges were others.. Compilers weren't that powerful, hardware were poor.. Be a developer in the 90's should be a pain in the ***...
Anyway.. Alpha in 6 months ;)

Look at the latest Developer Interview, I mean Mavor and the team did already some crunching before they started the Kickstarter Campaign.
So obviously the engine and the basic design is already done. So I really have a lot of faith into the guys to make it work in less than a year. The video already looked awesome. :)

No. What makes you say that? They've done SOME work on the engine, and while they did some design for the game visualization none of it is final an dependant on how the engine comes along so nothing is final at this stage.

No it is not final at all, but they have the direction they are heading for... they don't start from scratch...
They also said in that video that they will definitely using that art style for the game we saw in the vid...
