So I've had this happen three times this evening. 1st time I laughed at it being a glitch. On Ammo Mule playing as a sin, an assault lv3 charge grappled me. After i flew back i was still spamming grapple as an assassin who has just been grabbed is apt to do. Its in vain but /shrug. Much to my surprise I started to face stab him while i was in the air his body jumped up to my location and it counted and did damage. The time was on Steel peel and as i was flying back off the level i right clicked and started the grapple attack even though it the assault by this time was a good shotgun blast distance away. This is when i started to be skeptical. The last time I was a sniper on Grenade III. Game had just started and I'm pretty sure the assault could only have had Charge two.. I do not remember seeing the grapple animation. As I was flying back off the level, I right clicked with the smg equipped. A good half second after the pushback the assult appeared with me flying off the level as i threw my peashooter in his face. I the dropped to my death as i watched him try in vain to fly back to the level. Never seen this before tonight. Can only assume its something to do with the patch. While humorus for me I can only imagine the blind rage it caused in the enemy. Now that I think about it I remember getting knocked back by a Jackbot's ground pound and still landing the grapple. The Jackbot was misplaced (not on his normal path when he died as well.
I still suspect the changes made to grapple detection in the same patch that buffed the gunner's grapple. For this kind of thing and the high occurrence of face->back grapples.
Seems pretty common since the patch. Hopefully it gets sorted since you are right, it makes me rage when it happens.
Im not sure if its the same but this is happening a lot to me now lately. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHapNayOHys Basically when i charge into an assassin my assault just stops suddenly and i get grappled. Haven't tried it with the tank charge yet and i cant really say how to do it either as i dont play assassin. Still, rather frustrating as assault and tank are 2 of my 3 most played classes.
Maybe unrelated but im also noticing more "pushes" with the assaults charge then actual grapples. Its sometimes as if im just slipping past them or just bumping into them instead of grappling, even when im 100% sure they didn't jump or anything, as a result the charge itself has about only a 50/50 chance of actually doing damage. Its also not a lag issue (well it could be not not likely as i'm getting a ping of 9 on the server i play and most of the other people are all below 20-30 as well). (yes i know the pings are wrong, they show lower then they actually are but still) What was it exactly that they changed about grappling? And why? didn't really see anything wrong with it before.
These mid-charge grapples are getting pretty bad. Even bad assassins can get grapples on me when I try to punish them for an attempted facestab.
