Just a couple things I noticed about AI in my last game. 1. Units attacking my base, would advance until 1 or 2 died in the pack, then the others would retreat. It would be better to just put the units on a collision course with the base, regardless of what defense they face, more of a do-or-die mentality. I could keep my base up quite easily because the enemy units weren't 100% committed to the attack, and as they retreated, my defense towers would pick them off without any return fire. If each group would have continually pushed forward, my defenses would have fell without needing more. 2. Game ended when the commander went out on his own and attacked a very large number of my units that he couldn't hope of defeating, and died. (Commander should have been moving in the opposite direction toward the center of his base, rather than trying to deal with the opposition head on) (my attacking units were all of the tech 1 variety.)
Both of these have been around awhile. Commanders have gotten a bit better at self preservation but they are still pretty dumb with them. I think platoon timidness is caused by not being able to tell the difference between a base attack and just a lone tower in the middle of nowhere. Higher difficulty levels are somewhat better at this but still...
