AI comm - a little careless?

anyone else notice it's pretty easy to bait the AI comm away from his base? several times now he's overpursued units as I pulled back to regroup - he steps out of his base and gives me no choice but to kill him.

it's kinda disappointing, actually, cause at that point I'm usually about ready to send a few waves of units at his base and see how well I've prepared. it feels cheap to get the comm (and the win) without having to defeat more of his defenses and base.

    anybody else?

From what I have heard its a bug where it triggers a "I can't win this" event for the AI . Might be fixed this build.

i did! happened again last night... i was holding out to see if it still happened in gamma before posting.

i guess maybe it has something to do with my particular playstyle and unwittingly triggering something in sorian's code

i read about that in the other thread, but I don't think it's a suicide mission. i don't have the computer beat by that much when it happens.

I think it needs some "dangerous situations" hard coded into its thinking process.

For example, I had the AI drop his commander with an astreas, all alone, onto a tiny moon I had turned into a hornets nest with patrolling air and bombers.

I was fighting back and forth with the AI on the main planet and I heard the explosion and saw the AI was dead. It took me a bit to find the destroyed extractors to figure out what happened.

In other words, the AI should be smart enough to try and scout the planet before landing something so valuable.

Just played it. It does not fix it. Had all three commanders commit suicide by laser turret.

i feel like nlaush just flexed his bicep at me. 3 AI's? i feel so puny. i've yet to consider taking on more than 1, even though i'm easily beating him now.

now that I think about it, maybe you've inspired me. perhaps it is time to queue up 2!

    (but 3? pshh)

Well to be fair, it was a FFA. I usually play with my friend and 3-6 AI's, but the performance hit sucks.

Seriously just build a wall in front of all your turrents, armies, whatever and the AI will just stand there getting destroyed, not realizing that it probably is not a good idea to attack full frontal.

The previous betas had very hard AI's where I had to lower the eco setting for them. These ones, not so much...

Probably just testing out different approaches to the comm. Plus it might not have been modified yet for the fact that they're much harder to repair than they used to be.

The AI never repaired its commander. It's really that bad.

I'm sure it will be fixed and is just part of the process of creating a faster, stronger, sexier AI. But yea I have been having the same experience.

" i read about that in the other thread, but I don't think it's a suicide mission. i don't have the computer beat by that much when it happens. "

Sorry I should have been more clear in my language, apologies. The commander, -on his own- with no backup, will randomly rush your base around 20-40 minutes in. So I guess 'Unintentional suicide due to bad AI math' would have been better. With all these new people buying the game in the last 48 hours, the AI will be their first sparring partner. If their sparring partner is an idiot, bad reviews will start appearing very quickly. The AI was actually much smarter a week ago so something happened. I'm not ready for a prime time beatdown 1v1 pvp yet, so pretty please please please Sorian hire some extra ppl to work around the clock this next week to bump the AI, you don't want your AI like this when it's peoples first impression of the game. Love the new planets, everything is so purty now, but plz haz fix AI.

" Just played it. It does not fix it. Had all three commanders commit suicide by laser turret. "

Pout. Fires up cmud to play Batmud like he has the last 20 yrs.

More like repair is really that bad. 5000 is acceptable com metal cost. 25000 is not.

I like it, the new ubercannon crushes attacking forces, but damage to the commander now really matters rather than simply being a quick repair job. Beating the commander becomes a series of attacks rather than one swarm.
