Just played a long match against the AI and the AI built teleporters, but I never saw them use a teleporter once. Or even turn on a teleporter. They invaded my planet a few times, but never used a teleporter.

    Anyone else encounter this?

In my experiments AI used teleporters properly, but @sorian said there was some bugs that wasn't fixed in 67342:

As well I noticed that AI might not use teleporters if there not enough units on main planet. Also as far as I understand AI always unlink (or just disable?) teleporters after they were used.

Updated my post a bit. I suppose teleporters just not yet finished, but if you start game with 4 AIs on 4 planets they will use them for sure. And if you copy-paste units using cheat then AI will likely utilize most of those units though teleporter.

Yes... I've been playing Galactic War for a while now and every time I have to take out a Faction Leader I practically have to do it by myself. My 4 Subcommanders never leave their own planet. They don't even build teleporters.

Galactic War might have some different limitations.

I personally only tested skirmish with AI.

I was playing the Galactic War.

And my match went on for over an hour, so the AI definitely had enough units. Or it should have had enough units at least.

My AI got killed. So I dunno if it built any. Probably not.

Might be there is some specific in GW. Let's try to ask @sorian!

Any idea about that AI specific?

I'm pretty certain i've seen an AI use a teleporter. Both my sub commander and I invaded a smaller planet during Galactic War. I didn't see any units come out of it but the sub coms teleporter was turned on and heaps of Units were on the smaller planet with me.

    Cheers,

    -Todd

I didn't test GW, so I have no idea.

I have seen them build and turn on a teleporter in GW, though I didn't notice any units come through (I was chasing down an enemy commander at the time so wasn't paying attention).

I suspect the circumstances have to be just right for it to decide to build a teleporter.

Also, bear in mind this is a first pass at AI teleporter use. It will get better.

I was doing a GW game on relentless difficulty. I got my commander off to the moon of the main planet as I was badly losing, and was doing a bot of comboxing, and the bastard turned the teleporter on and killed me with some tanks that came through, so they do use it yeah.

I wonder why other AI aren't using teleporters then.

Of course. Just trying to help find and diagnose issues.

Good question, I can do a bit more comprehensive testing actually paying proper attention to the specific issue this afternoon and let you know.

    Edit : fixed formatting.

It appears as if the AI will only ever send units in, if there are valid jobs to be executed on the other end. There also appears to be a significant penalty for using portals over choosing a target on the same planet.

So the AI will never use portals to deploy combat units unless an immediate attack is scheduled. It also fails to gather intelligence properly, so sometimes it has a portal on an enemy planet, but it is unaware of this fact. It will never send in units for defensive purpose.

Sometimes the portal usage even gets really weird: The commander can be caught in a logic loop where it travels back and forth between planets when the portal appears safe as long as there is no intelligence (= AI forgets about now invisible defenses) and immediately travels back as soon as it arrives since the commanders vision now reveals the defenses. As soon as the AI commander is back, it will travel again...

    Interesting stuff.

I was playing a 2v3 GW match and the AI had a bunch of teleporters on its planets. I was busy working on establishing an orbital beachhead on those two planets when I discovered the enemy was on my planet. It had quite a few factories, and was even there long enough to get some T2 factories and orbital factories up. They were raiding my metal extractors and outlying buildings.

I then sent in my... 40ish T1 vehicles and steamrolled them.

They never once even built a teleporter.

    Hope this helps Sorian!

Already sent Sorian a PM which also covers a lot of other issues with the current AI, several from them related to interplanetary gameplay, but also a lot of "fun" stuff.

Just for fun: Try sniping all T1 factories and T1 engineers and orbital launchers from the AI. Leave it "stuck" with T2.
It will NEVER build any T1 factories again, no orbital fighters and no anti air. (Since there is no more T2 mobile AA!)
This also means that the AI will no longer be able to switch tech trees, so you can trick the AI into using T2 air only, without any AA. Send in fighters and it will continue sending gunships and T2 bombers only.
