So there will not be multiple factions but instead can we hope for some balance tweaks? Something like Advance War balance where everyone have the same units but slightly different stats and perks for each different commanders. You can even group different commanders to form factions for those who wants it.
No thanks, it's something that's come up everytime this type of topic pops up, but usually referencing Age of Empires. In the End, it comes down to unit readability, and stuff like this makes it a lot harder to mentally process in the middle of a game and really gets out of hand when you're playing a game with many people and each one has a different set of bonuses and such. It basically just undermines one of the main points to having a single unit pool to begin with. Mike
There's only 1 unit pool to cut costs. They would do more if it was reasonable and honestly I would probably prefer the Advance Wars perk style factions over the SupCom style nuance. Speed faction, DPS faction, HP faction, ez
In addition to Knight's point, Advance Wars shows the exact problem of limited strategic variety that you run into when you have "commander factions" where the commander choice changes the stats of certain units. You end up getting locked into playing to one type of strategy, and choosing any other strategy is a pointless exercise. Want to use artillery while playing as Max? Good luck! Likewise, the perks gained by commanders may not limit strategy as severely, but they introduce a whole new set of imbalances. I could write a small essay on the issues I have with the AW series as strategy games, but the short of it is that it's probably not the game to look to as an example of strategic balance.
