What sort of Achievements do you like/HATE? I always appreciate it when a game has a really interesting Achievement. The Orange Box has tons of them, and VALVe in general always seems to have some hilarious Achievements; Little Rocket Man and The One Free Bullet in Half Life 2, Master Of Disguise in TF2, Cl0wnd and the Moustachio Achievements in L4D2 Props to Dastardly in Red Dead Redemption, There's Always Peng in Dead Space, Pressed X A Lot in Comic Jumper and 9-Irony in Bioshock 2 But then there are some Achievements which just force you to GRIND through the game over and over again. Mass Effect, Dead Space and Need For Speed:Hot Pursuit are guilty here. I've actually gotten most of the ME2 ones with ease, and I'll 100% complete that game on my next playthrough. Currently playing Mass Effect 1 again and it just looks so tedious. First, I have to start a new game and continue with my old character (3rd playthrough now!) to get the Level 50 and 60 Achievements. Then I have to go and start a few new games, to get the different ability Achievements (Use Barrier on 75 enemies etc.). I've been 3 or 4 Achievements short of 100% in ME2 for about 2 months, and I'm only now working up the patience to do an Insanity playthrough. At this rate, I'll just never do a Mass Effect 1 Insanity playthrough  In Dead Space, I really want two Achievements; Upgrade every weapon, which requires multiple playthroughs, and finish the game using only a Plasma Cutter, another playthrough As for Need For Speed, Criterion can feck off if they think I care about any of those Achievements. There's generic ones for leveling up, and then there are Achievements like "Drive a yellow Camaro in the rain", "Take a photo of an Impreza in the desert". LOLNO So, tell us about your Achievements.
F.E.A.R. This game has ridiculous achievements. You can beat the entire campaign and pull 50 gamerscore out of it. :|
Bad Company 1 was mean because even if you beat it on hard, you have to go through it on normal also.
And I Am Bad Company was not only impossible, but from what I heard, glitched. Also, the tree chopping ones require some major grindage. Also, Powers of Two in Ultimate Alliance 2. That is all.
*consults xbox.com* Metal God: 100% on Brutal Legend. It was actually fun to get. King of the Palace: Clear all 101 floors of the Bloody Palace in Devil May Cry 4. It's incredibly hard because it's an endurance mode and you're on a timer so you have to be ungodly good at the game to even make it to floor 101; let alone defeat Dante there. I'll never get this one. Chaos Generator: Start all 3 generators in the Sacrifice finale at about the same time in either Left 4 Dead game. It's fun as hell to do so. The Real Deal: Clear a campaign in Left 4 Dead in Expert Realism. Holy crap that was a pain. A lot easier than DMC4. Scattering Ram: Knock over all four survivors as a charger in L4D2. Damn that's fun. Bridge Over Trebled Slaughter: The bridge finale is one of the most fun in L4D2. Back in the Saddle / Qualified Ride: Because being a jockey and playing against bad survivors is fun as hell. All 4 Dead: Kill/incap all four survivors as a tank in L4D1. Tank is fun as hell. Tongue Twister: Free yourself from a smoker in L4D1. When I was playing the game a lot, I was practically immune to smokers because I could spam enough autoshotty shells in their face that they'd never be able to pull me in even if they attacked from behind Defense of the Armament: Get through that awesome battle at the end of Half-Life 2 episode two. Lots of fun. Twofer: Defeat the twin antlion guards in one of the Half-Life 2 episodes. Pretty fun. Utu Sumerian Demon Dossier: Finish the 'Blood' stage on hard without being incapped in Jericho. Shockingly, the Sumeria stages were pretty damn easy compared to the rest of the game in spite of the fact that they're nothing but bosses. Bringing People Together: Kill 5 enemies with one use of the black hole ability in the Darkness. The name alone makes it worth it. Romantic: Something truly heartwarming in a game where even the protagonist is a homicidal maniac? Sure why not. Kung Fu Fighting: Defeat Wesker in the Lost in Nightmares(Resident Evil 5 DLC). Fun. The Works: Do a triple melee combo in Resident Evil 5. Double and triple melee combos are a lot of fun. Bull's-eye: Kill 50 enemies with Sheva's longbow. That weapon is just plain fun to use. It's especially satisfying to get a double headshot with it Heart Stopper: Kill a licker beta by impaling it when it's on it's back. Love my melee attacks. Found Cohen's Room: Unlock Sander Cohen's bedroom in Bioshock. True Mortal: Reach level 30 with neutral karma in Fallout 3. Needs more bonuses for neutrality. Take It Back!: Complete that very quest in Fallout 3. It's just all kinds of awesome, save for the instability of the Gamebryo engine crashing your console so easily :| Gravity is a Bitch!: Kill 30 enemies by pulling them down from a high spot with the grappling hook in Just Cause 2. Damn that must be the most fun grappling hook in any game ever. Grand Daddy: Defeat three Big Daddies in Bioshock 2 without dying. It takes three of them to pose a threat at that point, but it's still fun. Test of Faith: Complete Mirror's Edge without shooting anyone. It's actually a stupid idea to use guns at all in the game since they slow you down so much, so why this was an achievement...
Assassin's Creed 2. I don't want to look for the feathers... in my entire playthrough I found like 6 out of 100. No more
^^^ I LOVE the AC franchise, but there is NO WAY that I'm going looking for feathers to get 100% I just unlocked Submissive in Half-Life 2
Who here has the Kick the Bucket award, or the Inhuman Achievement? Not too many people are that good at Guitar Hero. I am, but I didn't have to grind too much. The only way for a normal person to get it is to dedicate years of practice to Guitar Hero, since most only play confortably at medium.
I hate filler achievements - those that you get for playing longer while the game doesn't actually present any long term gameplay. Kill 100,000 Slimbots? No thanks.
Exactly, Achievements should make you do something you wouldn't normally do, thus extending the gameplay in an enjoyable experience. Not something like kill 53,596 of something (I'm looking at you, every game containing zombies after Dead Rising) Using Dead Rising as an example, achievements like escorting 10 people at the same time, getting all the survivors out (fuzzy on the details of it exactly), Bowling 10 zombies over with a bowling ball, Answering all of Otis' calls, etc. First and third are fun "side quest" type things. Stuff you wouldn't normally do, but there's an incentive, so why not? Second one is also good, as it's challenging. Fourth one should not exist at all. Otis practically calls you every five seconds, and if you get attacked while talking to him, I'm pretty sure that ruined the count, AND he would call you back and rant at you for hanging up.
The two achievements I remember thinking "no way in hell am I ever going to get that" is Seriously 2.0 from GoW 2 (and its cousin Seriously from GoW 1). Seriously from GoW1 = kill 10,000 people in versus ranked matches. Yeah, no thanks, I hate the online in this game series anyways. Seriously 2.0 from GoW 2 = Kill 100,000 enemies. Yeah, um, I think I might have about 2,000 from 2 play throughs, a few Horde matches and what little multiplayer I tried. I hear it takes 15-20 hours grinding on one level to get this. For 50 Achievement Points. No thanks. Also, for whatever reason whenever I see these achievements I think of Homestar Runner saying "Sewiouswy." At least that's amusing.
Dead Rising 2. Zombie Genocider. Not only does it require multiple hours of doing exactly the same thing over and over, you also need a massive amount of preparation. Buying the SUV key, getting the vehicle magazines... Good god that is just awful.
Really? I just ran down to the service tunnels and grabbed a car. I'd make it to one end, then switch with a car there, and repeat. If you did laps, it was easier because the vehicles would respawn.
