Yknow, I think this is a great idea and all, but it can be improved.

For one, I think that the greater the distance between the two teleporters, the longer it should take for units to be teleported over there.

    Thoughts?

I dunno about time... But there should definitely be an increased energy cost.

Can't really say too much without trying it out.

I don't think they really need penalties, given their likelihood of just being nuked.

Replace "nuked" with "gibbed by artillery", "bombed", or "smothered in the nanolathe-cradle" and you get a more complete picture.

While a drawback for teleporters would be appropriate, it should NOT be time. We have enough troubles with time when it comes to orbital transfers, which take a long-*** time. Let orbital be used mainly for "seeding" planets and then have teleporters be the backbone of your army movement (except, of course, if you just make do with what you have on a planet).

...which is why early game is so slow, why orbital was moved to basic, etc etc.

And why I believe orbital transfer times are going to be reduced to some extent

    I certainly hope so.

I hope for single player games, theres a speed increase option for the game as a whole.

Yeah. The server can play games at non default speed. When full game is released we'll effectively run the server on our own machine.

Something like the Teleporter needs to come into play, and soon! We just had to give up on a huge game where we stalemated over owning opposite halves of the solar system, and couldn't effectively attack one another. The people who were already established on the planet just smashed all my beachheads with nukes and T2 unit sweeps. Sure, I was multiplying build power as fast as I could with T1 con spam with multiple planetary economies behind it, but I simply couldn't beat their built-up infrastructure. Believe me, I tried for over an hour.

Stilll.... how will the Teleporter be any different? It's an expensive T2 structure, right? Usually by the time I built one of those, it gets instantly nuked.

It's a T1 structure now, as are Orbital Launchers. Hopefully planetary stalemates will be averted by enabling players to scramble across the solar system quicker and be fighting each other on multiple planets. Teleporters will effectively allow players to round out their army distribution and enforce their otherwise frail claims to planets they didn't land on first.
