I've seen much talk about possible expansions on features and suggestions and such. My question is just: "Will the expansions be free updates? Or do we have to spend more money to get the rest of the game we backed?." It might sound negative the way I put it here. But I don't mean anything negative about it. Just curious ^^
we will see, the game is not finished yet, has to come out. no one even know if the game will be make much much profit, but we get all the things we got with skretchgoals without extra payment, that is clear.
Also, like in Assassin's Creed 2, where it was obvious they designed the DLC during the game's development, it does give a feeling of dishonesty. If Uber designs this game for 9 months, and releases everything they designed for free, but then designs ADDITIONAL things after-conclusion, then it's new content they have a right to charge for.
We can't assume the tree will live to 100 years if we have not yet planted the seed. We not in the position to make these guesses this early.
I think that is a negative way of looking at it. The features specified in the stretch goals thus will be a part of the base game, I don't think you need to be worried about that. If Uber decide to produce more content going forward, it would be content they have a right to charge for if they decided to. It would be DLC in the traditional "Pay for new content" sense before it became analogous with the kind of thing Thetrophicsystem gave as an example which is more a "pay to unlock the full game" Uber seem to have a very generous approach to the release of content, providing updates for free in MNC and SMNC, but I dont think it is fair to expect this of them. We certainly have not paid them for any and all future content they produce beyond the base game, the amount they have got is a shoestring budget for a game as it is.
First: There doesn't exist dumb questions. Only dumb answers. That said. Thanks for your replies. But it was more kinda a question for the devs. I didn't really needed "I don't know" or anything like that. It was more of curiosity than to annoy anyone. Sorry if you found it dumb. I know the game isn't done. But as I wrote I had seen talk about expansions when I looked at coming features and such. So uber them selves are talking about expansions. Are they dumb for talking about it aswell? I personally don't think so. But everyone can have their opinions.
I just think you either mean they are releasing patches and expansions which would obviously probably be free anyway. Or they are releasing content made a while down the line, possibly charging for it, but they made it after releasing everything they worked on the next nine months so it isnt like you buy a game and get any sequels it ever has for free. Or you are talking about what the fans say they will make as addons to the game. Which more than likely will also be free as well. I just felt it was a dumb question. The most solid answer I can give you is "Uber has never released any content for their games which they charged people for, such as Spunky Cola Special for Monday Night Combat (free), regular updates for Monday Night Combat (free), and mostly-weekly updates for Super Monday Night Combat (free)." Did you find that useful at all?
It's not dumb to talk about expansions, but to speculate as to whether they'll cost money is not for this stage in development. Since it will likely depend on several different factors which will only turn up during development or after the release.
Well, considering how Project Eternity is already talking about expansions, I do not find this question to be dumb at all (although, there does exist dumb questions). But unlike Project Eternity, PA doesn't seem like a title appropriate to promise expansions all ready. It makes more sense for Project Eternity, as an RPG, you can - effectively - always add more content, which may or may not be additional game play mechanics (although, sometimes expansions tries to use existing mechanics in interesting ways). So while Obsidian cannot reveal (yet) what will be in such an expansion (because they don't know exactly what will be in the main game), they can with pretty good certainty promise one. I find the scenario to be rather different for PA, where an expansion would require new mechanics. However!, Uber has already stated that PA won't have expansions or DLCs at all, but will rather be updated in a similar way as patches. It seems to be, that once they've charged you for the initial game, they have no desire to charge you for more, but you'll still get more content.
It was very useful, thanks!. I think that pretty much covers my question. We'll just have to wait and see then. I don't need more from this question.
