I bought this game 3 weeks ago, and I have to say I'm very happy with the purchase. I've never spent a better $15. I'm also pleased to say that I'm well above average, at least when it comes to beginner players such as myself. There are some things that do bother me and hinder my enjoyment of this game. Here's a simple list: The Assault: His firepower is fine, I just think his abilities are too good for what they are. With their cool down times, he can fly and spam bombs at you, and can charge grapple you. And since he's a relatively small target, it's hard to hit him from range, meaning you have to get in close to medium range, where assaults are practically unbeatable. Turrets: One thing I really like about the Spunky Cola map is that turrets actually have a decent influence on the outcome of the game, unlike most other maps. Turrets (other than lazer blazers), represent a significant investment. I don't think it should be as easy as it is to just mortar a Rock-It turret to death with a gunner, especially if some poor sap spent 1050 on the thing. The only time turrets represent a significant threat is when a support hacks them with 2 or 3 hack, but should I REALLY have to play one specific class to get anything out of a turret? I don't think so.... Also, if I build and upgrade a turret to level 2, but some guy comes along and upgrades it to three, shouldn't I get some payback, like an assist for everything it does? Sniper: Unless, they're level 1, sniper traps are 90% of the time a free kill for the sniper. They last around 5 seconds where you can do almost absolutely nothing, while the sniper can line up a perfect headshot on you. Explosive rounds also shouldn't detonate when hitting friendly bots, teammates, and turrets. Overtime: Words cannot express how much I hate overtime. I'm aware it is a sudden death sort of thing, but any gunner with deploy three can easily just get juice, waltz into your base, and begin to rail on your money ball like there's no tomorrow, all the while, you're trying to save yourself from the framerate dropping to 3 FPS, and while 3 jackbots are coming your way. Sound fun? Well guess what, it isn't. Running into teammates: I don't like to bring up other games on a completely unrelated forum post, but this only seems appropriate. Bioshock 2 has great online multiplayer, at least in my opinion, others might not like it, but that's there opinion. One of my favorite things about it is that YOU CAN WALK THROUGH TEAMMATES. I can't even fathom how many times I've been running away from an enemy with almost no health and on the very brink of death, only to be doomed to certain death because a "friendly" gunner is blocking the path, as I get mowed down. This isn't just a problem with MNC, but other shooters such as Halo, Battlefield, and CoD. Games in progress: So this is how it usually goes for me when I hop on this game alone: 1. Join game in progress. 2. Team losing by God knows how much. 3. The only reason a slot is open on this terrible team is because someone rage quit. 4. I say no and rage quit myself. 5. Restart matchmaking. 6. JOIN THE SAME GAME ON SAME TEAM RARGLAHRGHARARHARGH. If I just quit that game because I DIDN'T WANT TO BE IN IT, WHY ON GOD'S GREEN EARTH WOULD I WANT TO BE IN THE SAME GAME ON THE SAME TEAM?!. Another thing I thought would be a good idea would be to have a super BLITZ jackbot be in overtime, instead of three or four normal ones. I recently played sudden death blitz (or super sudden death, I don't remember what it was actually) over at a friends house, and those Jackbots at level 80 do NOT MESS AROUND. Even my 4 level 3.3 rocket turrets were wetting their pants in fear because of those things. How about instead of having all this stuff going on that just brings up lag and framerate issues, just have 1 or 2 of these bad boys in and call it a day... Anyways there's probably more I could talk about, maybe another time. Overall, great, but flawed game, just like any other of course. I just want to do what I can to help make this game as good as it can get. I'm aware some of these annoyances and issues may have been brought up, and if they have, no need to tell me, I'll find out on my own. Also, I would really appreciate it if anyone could tell me if any of the aforementioned issues will be fixed in any future updates for the 360. Thanks!
You find many of your issues discussed in the forum archive when you make your search through. I expect that as you play the game more you will find that your opinion on some of these issues will change. I expect that after 3 weeks you will still have a lot to learn about the game. Not everyone agrees, but rule of thumb I think you'll find in time that overtime is necessary and not so bad, games need to be brought to a close. Many people have similar issues as you regarding the assault, but the remedy is not as straight forward as you would like, there are many balance implications. Expensive turrets are defendable, but it tends to take team work to keep them, which is hard to come by in public games. A simple tactic for now is to save your money until a minute before overtime and then build them all at once. Read the strategy guides for tips on avoiding sniper traps, near every class can get around them with relative easy. Getting through team mates, particularly in the spawn is irritating, but I guess not a huge issue. Enjoy the forum
Traps are easy to see, dodge, and can be blow up. I feel they're pretty well-balanced on the Xbox, and the only way you'll get a whole lot of kills with them is if you're playing against absolute morons, who you' d kill a lot with anything. The time it takes to line up a headshot is much longer than on the PC, unless you're already aimed at the ice trap. Usually snipers lay their ice traps and focus on other things like pushing bots or quickscoping people, but remain aware and also listen for the traps. It takes a while to look over there. Solution: don't be an idiot. I feel the explosive rounds on your own bots are necessary for helping counter Assassins. You shouldn't need a Tank to be able to kill a bot-hungry Assassin. Even with the explosive rounds, they can lunge in to kill the wave before you can shoot it most of the time. The one thing I REALLY hate about explosive rounds is if you shoot 2 or more bots with 1 bullet, it makes 2 or more explosions which all count as different shots, potentially killing people nearby in ONE shot.
I agree on this one. I feel his abilities should have slightly longer recharge times. As it stands, the Assault is just a little bit too versatile.
You bring up an interesting point with countering assassins, but my problem with it is that it counters the idea of the sniper in and of itself. Snipers are meant for precision shooting, he has a high power, low RoF rifle with a telescopic sight on it to increase range and accuracy. The reason it has a low RoF is to keep the sniper level headed, as in not spamming bullets in a panic. I just think that it contradicts the proper sniper mentality, instead of hitting people in the head or upper body like you should be, you can hit an entirely different entity and still kill another person, making it like a highly precise grenade launcher, just my opinion. There are many ways to look at it. As for the ice trap argument which i didn't quote because I was being stupid, I think that they're just too hard to see, but that also goes for the assault's bombs, which are equally annoying. I also think having THREE out at the same time with the range that each one has AND skill draining is a bit much. Anyways, thanks for posting your opinion.
I've never understood that argument. It has been brought to a close. The time ran out. Simply go with whoever has more health. Simple. Actually, I think this simple remedy might fix everything. Nerf his Charge. Nerf that muther f*cker like there's no tomorrow. That, and his bomb, are what make him a pain. If he couldn't run from every fight, he wouldn't be such a pain. Same thing happened to Tank, right? His Charge takes longer to recharge on the PC version. Copy and Paste. Also hate this. So, building them right before Overtime is a good idea. But a big problem lies in a Gunner: Doesn't matter what you do. If a Gunner juices to kill your turrents, they'll die. At least three of them. Takes frickin two shots, maybe three, from a juiced Mortar. That's it. Overpowered, to the extreme. He also brought up a favorite point of mine: Give the original creator(s) some part of the profit from a turrent. No reason not to. At ALL. Traps are annoying, but avoidable. Teammates are annoying, and unavoidable. Still, not a big issue though. What he said.
