So folks may or may not have noticed that the FOOM dedicated server is now advertising "1 hour Brawls." That's right: 60 minute match time, with a 15 minute overtime. I tried it as an experiment to see what people would think, and gave it a go myself earlier this evening:

    AWESOME.

Absolutely epic. The level of tactics, strategy, and momentum was unlike anything I'd seen yet. Some of the highlights:

The Icemen's assassin constantly sliding behind our defenses and destroying our rear turrets, then firing our ejector and using our juice. UGH! Much props to AngrySandMan. Combined with three assaults rebounding grenades all over the place (and a well-played Gunner by "DatniggerImhotep" (apologies for the name, sigh)) they ground us down to our last rocket turret before the money ball.

The counterattack led by me of Gapshots - there were eight of them on the field at once at once point - and a 3.3 Longshot turret, which led to sudden, massive failures of Icemen defenses.

THEIR counterattack of pushing with juiced Assaults that bought them the time to rebuild from the devastation wreaked...

I can't count the number of times huge assaults would take place on 3.3 Rocket Turrets, with one team scrambling to hold it and another team desperately pounding on it trying to force their position forward.

In the end, another avalanche of Long-Range fire combined with a Tank-Gunner (FOOM-Lieutenant Loco, and I don't recall the Tank's name) juice rush cracked the last 3.3 Rocket before the Ice moneyball, and it lost half its health. This must've demoralized, because the Icemen never really got their defenses fully together again. Two minutes later, Overtime started, and it didn't run to 15 minutes - after 4, the momentum shift was just too strong and the Icemen dropped.

If anyone else from that epic brawl reads this, please provide your insights. What an awesome back-and-forth battle!

I don't think a single person in the game finished with less than 20 kills - though some still had ugly KDA's. Heh. What a brutal game.

The only downside is that after such a long, grinding game, everyone wants to take a break - and so the server empties until the next set of brawlers get in the game!

Sounds awesome. You should really record these games and upload them to youtube.

Nice! I think it's great idea to experiment with settings like that. One of the most epic games I played in Demigod was a 60+ minutes match on the smallest map. Usually that game would have been decided in 5 minutes but we got to a point where nobody had a fixed build anymore because games usually don't take that long. Makes it all the more interesting!

I played on your server once btw, was fun. Unfortunately I live in the EU and have a high ping to you. Still, had a good time even with the odd lag hick-up. :D

I noticed the 60min limit late last night (this morning), but it was empty at the time. Looking forward to trying it! I always thought 15 minutes was too short, and games should be allowed more time to finish before throwing it away by going into overtime

Well, as of right now, the server shows full. :) Apparently hour-long matches are a hit with someone!

Those long matches are fun, but exhausting!

I'll be looking for this server. :p I want an hour long brawl. The standard match time is too short for me to be honest. :p

One problem I have is that the longer a match goes on, the harder it is to finish it. People collect huge amounts of money once they stop spending on skills, and Lv3 Rockits just keep sprouting up faster than I can kill them.

Yeah. It really does become a TEAM game, and not a "hot-handed single pro" game after a certain point. The whole TEAM has to focus on an objective, a specific turret to punch down, etc. And you find yourself genuinely NEEDING the Long Shot turrets and the Gap Shot bots to soften up the enemy's objectives before you make the push.

What worked for us last night was to get a 3.3 Longshot or two, spawn four or six Gapshots, and then make a paired juice rush, my teammate Loco and I. Individuals - no matter how good or how juiced - get countered after about the 20 minute mark.

It's a tough environment for PUGging, but an awesome one for team play. (Or an awesome environment for PUGging if you really want to push your skills to the limit.)

the last long game I played was on Steel Peel.. longshots and gapshots don't work, and there aren't many angles on some of the turrets, especially with the glass they added

Hmm. I'll try to make a point of playing on that map if I can this evening. I have a few notions for that one, but it'd require testing. :)

I find it seriously hard to believe a team won't win within like maybe 20 minutes. >.>

Do you typically find repeated concrete evidence difficult to believe? If so, I know a few cultists who would LOVE to sit down with you.

Yeah when the Spunky Cola Special DLC released for the XBox a couple of us figured out a way to bring the custom match option into a public room. Public Rooms are Quick Matches and standard settings. We had a few 75 minute games, one really memorable one was on Spunky Cola Arena and it lasted all the way till overtime. Both teams where evenly matched, it was pretty crazy.

Protip: Spunky Cola Arena with Tanks only is a blast.

More power to you if your games go that long! I couldn't stand it personally.

I just can't believe one team will not have won after an HOUR. >.<

That goes back to what I said earlier. The longer the game goes with uncoordinated teams, the harder it becomes for either one to win.

It's easier for a team to throw up a ton of Lv3 rockits than it is for the other team to break through them

Props to the server admin for trying something different; I played a couple of really fun matches on this server today.

I got a slot tonight. It was really fun until Rock-AA came in. Ruined the fun in less than 64 seconds. I left. Not dealing with dumb shits.

Can't wait till you can ban him. I'll probably be avoiding the server till he's gone. =/

Here's a good thread to look at.

I'll take care of this later today.

Edit: Actually, I just took it down now in order to resolve it right now. :)

Okay, once I logged in with admin privileges on the server, this is exactly what I typed:

    Adminkickban 0x0110000103559484

Now if I read your link properly, that should've kicked and permanently banned Umadbro, right?

I've done that with all three names on the list, if my syntax was set up properly.

Let me know if there are other IDs to boot, and/or they show up anyhow, indicating I screwed up something.
