I guess in due time, when 1v1 balance and unit diversity are fixed and some core features are added. we should expect something like a 2v2 ladder. It will be great!
How would a 2v2 ladder work? Do you just get teamed up with some random or would you and your friend have to team up first and the go matchmaking?
No they don't and it has been discussed a few times. Actually Pilot was implementing it but stopped due to community pressure not coming to agreements and whatnot. Suggestions are nice but you should think: if the dev team works on this, they are not working on something else that could have been a LOT more awesome since we already have a 1vs1 ladder. Let's sum up why we want a 2vs2 ladder: - We can click a button instead of hosting a custom game (easy access) - We can play 2vs2 games competitively with a ladder system Now the bad points: - Who exactly will really play it to win? You'd need a pre-made team, because getting put in a team with a random guy can really suck sometimes since you don't know his/her play-style and whatnot. - You split up the community. While there is a guy waiting for his (perhaps 2vs2) teamgame to fill up 1 to 3 other players are waiting for a matchup on the ladder. - What division is the player in? Will the ranking be centralized meaning both ladders influence it or will we split up the skill level? - What kind of setup will it have? Can you choose spawn points? Spawn on different planets? I mean, we are still working on the 1vs1 map pool... I'd more likely have them work on little stuff and polishing instead of bringing something huge in the game which most likely doesn't have a big demand. (Sure it'll get used once it's there but you won't see a lot of people complaining if it isn't there...)
I have no interest at all in 1v1, but I have a friend I'd love to play 2v2 with. I suspect this will come early next year.
I think it'd be great. What if we did a variety of all kinds of ladders. Would rank be changed if you suck at other ladders? I personally think that you would have a different rank for every ladder.
TBH, for 2v2 we would need a league and season system. Mattrmunson and myself were working on such a system, but I had to change my priorities and we just never picked it back up.
I think enough people want it. It plays entirely different from 1v1 and that is why some don't play 1v1. It would have to be premade. If people don't have a partner, they need to find one. That way, they aren't disadvantaged against premades. Honestly, it has potential with multispawn and everything, but for starters it can literally have the same spawns as 1v1, because it already plays stronger and different on same maps. Can have same ranking just seperate from 1v1, the ladder can track them via "registered teams", each pair can have a name. If someone pairs between 2 people, each have different name and rank. Also, can have 4v4 premade, and 3v3 "solo matchmake unshared armies", and even a 2v2v2v2v2 and 1v1v1v1v1?
A ranked ladder seems to difficult to implement for multiple players. Are there enough players? Would you have an official partner or random players chosen as partners? Official teams? What happens if your partner stops playing? Who would you play(two ubers or two new players both ways they are not competitive)? Etc...? I'd rather see official (or exodus) 2v2 3v3 4v4 (shared, unshared) tournaments or leagues. Maybe monthly stuff for this game type. Team games are being neglected a bit besides clan wars (where are all the clan games and players?) and binary stars. Or even a pro-am tournament consisting of ubers and plats teamed with new players could be fun. Rank players from 1-64 based on ladder results. Team one would be the 1st and 64th ranked player. Team two would be the 2nd and 63rd ranked players. And so on. This would be interesting (this might have to be unshared).
