A while back I made a thread here asking Uber for advice about Kickstarter. It was very helpful and made me feel more confident in what me and a few friends of mine are doing. Well after a ton of work, here it is. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1813602869/lacledes-lan-reboot-the-midwest-gaming-community Laclede's Lan is a few friend and I and back in the day we did 200 person Lan parties around the St. Louis area complete with tournaments, prizes, and all the creamy goodness that is PC gaming. We want to get started again on our 10th anniversary and we need some help. We have a goal of $14,000 within 31 days. All information is on the kickstarter page and on our site. http://www.lacledeslan.com/ I just ask that you help spread the word, epically if you know anyone that lives in the Midwest of the United States. Thank you. Also FYI: I am not in the video.
No arena shooter, fighting game, or RTS tourneys. What the heck? Aren't those what LAN parties are for? I'd put another tourney as a far distant stretch goal to generate some more interest. Possibly a poll or something to pick the game. And I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but I heard that LoL games are still hosted on the normal servers when people want to do something like this. I could be wrong, but I heard this somewhere and figured this would be the place to clear that rumor up. I'd throw some money at you if I could afford it, but all my backings lately have been at the exceedingly generous $0.10 mark. I'll still do so because it generates some publicity and can help you to the front page, but I can't afford more than that.
We are pretty much going with games we have had success in the past and what we can host. As for League, there was a recent event at a local Tech college that was very successful, even a few people from Riot was there (they have an office in st.louis). I also understand its possible to use a local server for League, but I would have to check into that. As for other games we are taking suggestions. I am willing to setup a server for any game within reason.
So they were just rumors after all. Thanks for clearing that up. This thing is really best left to a poll of attendees. Quake, UT, and War/Starcraft are to me obvious choices for tourneys, but which one within each series people want to play is entirely up in the air. I'm not big on most fighting games myself, so somebody else might be able to chime in on what to play for those. You need a bunch of interested people to have a successful tourney, so polls are great for those.
I always wish there was someone that made a computer and gaming cafe chain in a few major cities including certain games and long distance lan networks to setup games across the cafe's. Lan is awesome.
Uhm, you do know what LAN stands for right? Anyway, sounds like a good idea, I'll post it on some forums. I myself won't donate cos I'm a poo' sonuvabitch. Also Minecraft tourney? U wot m8?
What, I know what lan is, and many games are bound by game setup for it, but do you know what VPNs or Hamachi is? Works charms for Minecraft or other things. And I say minecraft because often enough direct connect don't wana work.
Yes, but in this case I present it is obviously more of a paradox than an oxymoron. I mean, I presented the thing exists, not in the truest form but it exists in living proof. Actually, GTA4 computer version exists entirely off of it, rockstar did a poor job with the online component for that game on the computer, as well as many failings of it's porting. Driving is ****, arrow keys only allow for one type of turning your vehicle, VERY sharp.
Hamachi is a mess to work with in my expeirence. There is a difference between doing an internet game with Voip and hanging out with 200+ other gamers in a lan party at a conventional hall. Its a whole different experience. There is nothing to separate you from everyone else.
True that. That is why I said it is a shame nobody made a few cafes. Because localized meeting places for gamers is very nice, yet I live in Texas, Houston is a big place so if every major city had one that also LAN with members from other cities, then that would be freaking amazing. Or maybe one exists somewhere and it is obscure so I have to look. Who knows. I'd totally put money into it even if it is just a tshirt. I also pledged on Project Stealth.
We just have a university LAN society where we all go to the basement/nightclub part of the Union and play Warcraft / Halo / Gmod/ Youtube Shrek Videos
There used to be a place in my area called Impact, It was the place to go to play some real command and conquer back in the day. Unfortunately its no longer in business. It was easier to find lan party groups back in the day before social media. Just curious do you happen to know of any active Lan party groups in Houston? Gmod, that would be interesting for lan party. Would you do sandbox or some special gametype? Kinda curious on that one.
As I understand it Gmod server is alot harder to setup than the standard source game, (thanks to lua for that). A good friend of mine has put together a few Gmod servers in the past. I think I might try doing one myself and putting it on standby for events. Right now I am looking at the gamemode browser and I am seeing some interesting stuff like deathrun, Attack on titan, gmod dayz, and some others. I will be blunt I am not a fan of any "role play" game types. For events I would have to do something that is stable, easy to learn, easy to download, and easy to play.
I know its been a while, but I figured I would give you all an update. We did not get funded by kickstarter, however because of the kickstarter it has put us in contact with alot of people and companies that want to help us out. The event is still going on, we just don't have all the details yet. http://www.lacledeslan.com/
