Hello all, I have just started playing Galactic War properly today since the game released (yay!) and I was wondering about a few things: Game Size: epic, uber, etc - what does this actually do? What are your favourite settings and why? Game Difficulty: I started a game on normal and it feels like I'm facerolling every single fight, should I restart on some harder difficulties? (Context: I've been playing these games since TA, played TA:TCC, Supreme Commander, Forged Alliance, etc. So I know what I'm doing). If so, what difficulty would you recommend for a 'TA veteran' but someone who doesn't have any knowledge of PA-specific things (basically unit knowledge, all the orbital stuff). Finally some off-topic random questions: Are you guys content with the current singleplayer content? Do you think there should be more of a singleplayer campaign? What do you guys think of the fact that we basically have no factions in the game, only one single army that everyone uses? (Spoiler: I THINK IT SUCKS!) Thanks guys.
Welcome to the forum! Game size affects how many solar systems are in your galaxy. Thus how longer the war will last. Difficulty increases over time. The further you are away from your original starting point, the tougher it gets. And boss battles are quite tough. Especially because they usually have more than one commander on the enemy team. So it's normal that the first battles are really easy, it will get harder over time. For galactic war I recommend hard difficulty for veteran rts players. For AI skirmish though, keep it normal. AI skirmish is a lot harder than GW. (because it doesn't start with easier levels)
Have you tried the system editor? You can make your maps there. Planets are still randomly generated, but you can mess with options a lot to get what you want. The seed will be the same when you save your map, so planets are the same ones you see in the editor as in-game when you load the map. But there isn't a 'paint' way of making maps where you can shape and texture your planets at will, if that's what you're looking for.
Welcome to the forums! I am pretty happy with galactic war, when considering the limited time and funds Uber had to make the game, compared to, say, TA or SupCom. It is also still early days, and Uber want to add more to GW as time goes on, and add things like a co op mode and such. Hopefully you will find enough to love about it, or get into the online skirmish scene, which can be mighty fun! The factions again, can be attributed to limited time and funds, and that Uber wanted to have everyone able to build exactly the same units, to make it more about the tactics than picking the strongest faction. I quite like knowing that whatever I have, my enemy does too
Honestly different planets/planet combinations is not what I'm looking for. In TA I would construct maps that pitted me vs 3 or more AIs, with my starting location in a protected 'bunker' type structure. With the goal being survive long enough to build super experimentals (which I disabled on the enemy team) to destroy the enemy! I don't think that type of gameplay will ever exist again. I remember shedding a tear or two at SupCom's lack of skirmish customization/map construction. Not really into online skirmish, it's too 'tryhard' for me. TA/SC for me has always been about building massive bases, armies, etc. I already have enough competitive multiplayer in my life anyway. As for factions, I couldn't care less about having different units (in terms of armament/strength). What I want is 'flavour'. You think I was a Cybran player because of their unit strengths? Nope. I just thought they looked AWESOME! That said, I am totally in love with PA's unit design, it ******* rocks. I just wish there was some more personality to choose from. It adds a lot of flavour to the game if you have different factions pitted against each other. Factions could be identical in terms of power/strength but still have different unit designs. I totally understand that that requires more money though.
Wow. Ok. My first fight on Hard difficulty... enemy is on another planet.. Ok... took me so long to figure out how to effectively attack other planets, I got my *** handed to me. Gah. And nukes can traverse solar systems? Whut the ****.
