The way I hope booms will eventually work is that they are a good early to mid game harassment unit to metal extractors,but that they don't do enough dmg to be able to ball up and destroy a bunch of ants or infernos. They should useful against Dox or grenadiers but only in big numbers.
if explosions caused by neutralization caused friendly fire that would be better then what we have now. it would force the boom boots to still need to be micro-ed instead of "point and destroy" as it is now.
if they can be only effective when microed then there would be no reason for me personaly to ever build them ... i canĀ“t focus on a small skirmish when i have 4 armies to control over multiple planets ... also booms are still very fragile and have almost no vision ... having radar and some ranged defenses/units should help to defend against booms ...
Ok so it seems like i was entirely wrong about boombots tank dox is better than pure bot compositions
As I see it the primary role for Bolo in ground army is just to counter enemy bolo and bot harassment. They don't have the firepower or hitpoints to really go toe-to-toe with defenses. That is flametanks/vanguard and artilleries job. But they do have range and high RoF. I thought about using Dox as "chaff". If they can punch through meat shields (Flametanks) then just give them something that is cheap and that they "overkill". A line of dox between booms and the bolo means they have two choices: Trying to rush thorugh the Dox, taking fire from the dox and bolo and not getting really anywere. Attacking the Dox wich is a bad deal. 2 Dox are a lot less worth then 1 Flame tank, 1 Dox less then 1 Bolo. If boom lack an AoE (as I think they do), bot and in particular Dox are thier aboslute counter. Can't ignore them, can't fight them without loosing.
