Would be an interesting way to defend against planet smashes as well as the metal planet.

That's actually an interesting idea. It would help with protecting from super weapons, but I dunno. Seems like it could just be more of a hard counter rather than something interesting.

If it only protected a small area maybe it could be interesting and help against smaller planetsmashes. Of course it still wouldn't be very effective against the ANNIHILAZOR because that just eliminates the entire planet and could just be aimed away from any shielded zones for maximum boomage.

What I think would be MORE entertaining and interesting would be to get in asteroid belts and planetary orbit adjustment back in, so you could create a makeshift "planetary shield" by dropping multiple moons/asteroids into orbit around your planet. They can protect against planet smashing thanks to incidental smashing, and maybe the ANNIHILAZOR could have reduced damage if something gets in the way? *shrug* I dunno. I feel that if you could create a "shield" this way it's more interesting because then you've got the dilemma of choosing whether to strike or to defend with your big smashy rock :p

Another idea that just popped into my head.

We've got metal planet LAZORZ. What about an option to instead of firing, you could build ALL the catalysts and choose instead to activate the Shield World! So you forgo destruction to turtle down against nuke and planet strikes, but the enemy can still drop in units through orbit cause something something smaller objects can breach the shield.

Seems a little more interesting to me than "quick, get to advanced tech so I can lock down my planet with the auto-lockdown planet structure" :p

I'm good with my defense being offence though. I mean if I get to BUILD ALL the CATALYSTS I figure I deserve to remove a large part of the playing field. Seems disappointing if you don't end up with an earth-shattering kaboom after spending so much time and eco on something so epic. I mean we're supposed to be playing planetary ANNIHILATION here, so it seems fitting to me that the best way to defend against being mega-sploded is to totally explode all the enemies things before they explode all your things/the ground you're standing on!

Now I want to see the Annihilaser hitting shields and shattering them, causing bits of shield to rain hellfire down upon a built-up planet.

We need a defense of giant mirrors to deflect the ANNIHILAZOR to other planets.. :) ANNIHILAZOR pinball!!

or as a new orbital unit.. Mirror of doom!!

or where you focus the sun down to a point (like you can do with a magnifier) and start burning ants.. oh wait there are no ants.. :(

Planetary shields sounds more like something that would stall orbital intrusions, but we have enough madness going on in the orbital layer as-is.

Well... another (troll) thread about shields

Brad and his locking addiction is getting out of control. We're just feeding him more threads to lock daily at this point.

Tatsujb has got to have been the only person I (Remember) have spoken to who has legitimate reasons for wanting shields that isn't "They can be balanced!!1!1!" or "They are so cool!1!!!11!".

And can't wait for his mods.
