A list of exploits and trolling tactics

Guys I was seeing the pause exploit and decided to create a quick list of exploits and trolling currently in the game so that the devs can take a look at. I would like you guys to contribute so that these problems be brought to light, and may be fixed by the devs.

I would ask you guys try to keep the exploits in one or two lines so that is quicker to read, put a number on them and, if you want, in the bottom, put what you think would be the solution for it.

1.Pause trolling: A player can break the game by pausing infinitely in succession
2.Commander delete trolling: in shared games a player can ragequit deleting all commanders in his team.
3.Astreus commander exploit: a player can make his commander near invincible by sending him back and forward between planets with queued move orders.
4. Commander shooting all weapons: when you cancel an uber cannon shot the commander starts shooting all his weapons in the direction of the ground
5.Super long lobby names:lobby names so long they take up the whole screen (by Thetrophysystem)

1.A definable limit of in game pauses, a identifier to player who is pausing.
2.A Vote system for deleting commanders in shared games.
3.A small cooldown before the Astreus can leave orbit.
4. Just fix this
5.Limit the characters to 32

U forgot one:
Ragequiter can do all_units_radius_roaming so server will get or epic lag or just go sleep for few minutes

The commander deleting has been something that has been discussed a lot.

The long and short of it is, nothing should be changed with it.

Deleting units is a very valid component of gameplay. We don't want to remove or gimp that feature because of trolls. Trolls will always find a way to troll. If they can't delete your commander, they'll delete all of your structures. Or send all of your units on a stupid move. Or cancel all of your factories.

Removing commander deletion or introducing a vote mechanic will do nothing but make trolls do something different.

Pausing, Astraeus hopping, and Comm shooting all weapons does need to be fixed though.

You have a vocabulary problem there.

normally exploit means a bug or broken bit of balance that allows you to win games unfairly.

.....not "tool by wich to make your opponent suffer in their victory"

that can be extended to "play with people who it looks like you can trust by their rating and game count" which would be a far-reaching majority of the community.

Better idea definitely.

My primary gripe with the "don't play with randoms" argument, is that in my opinion a player shouldn't have to go around forums to find people to play with. The only steps that are acceptable are: Buy game-->Install game-->Launch game-->Play game.

Solutions need to be found within this framework I believe.

I think PAstats could keep track of #of games played.

At one point we had a UI mod that took your PAstats rating and showed it in game.

we should get that mod working again and add game count to it.

I the end I can't fathom why UBER wouldn't implement this themselves eventually.

The only form of perfection to find with random teamates is to not have any.

Perfection is definitely not achievable in this regard, definitely not with an RTS, but there are tools to make the system work to an entertaining degree.

It doesn't have to let you win, it just makes it easier to win, or impossible to lose. The Commander being invincible is an exploit, and so is the one that allows him to fire all weapons. (I had no idea about that one!)

Yes i agree trolls will troll, but that doesn't mean you should not try to make it difficult for them to do so.

An analogy would be thieves will steal, that doesn't mean you should not have a lock on your front door just because he can still open it with a crowbar.

Yes the lock does limit your ability to enter your house, so i guess is question of balance between security and convenience.

that would be true IF the commander WERE invincible.

on the offchance your avenger is there at the right time and place the commander will go down.

there is not such thing as impossibility to win.

you can always test your opponent's nerve's see who can let their computer run longest.

as I said before a troll eventually gets tired of anything. and I doubt they'd endure their own trolling method past an hour of it. and frankly that's reflective of their nerve.

It would make no difference.

Why is the commander deletion a concern if he could just a delete all your units, factories or mexes instead? That's just the risk with shared armies.

Yeah, that'll really help. Out of all the games I've played, there has been one person who was "disagreeable", even then he only deleted his teammate's commander when there was a planet heading for it anyway. In another case he deleted factories as we abandoned a planet which was more stupid than anything else. Apart from that, I have NEVER had any problems with random people.

On the topic of stopping trolls: I think some sort of demerit system could work. GTA V has a nice one where all the trolls get tossed into special servers full of all the other trolls.
