I wish I saw the improvement you do.. I'm hoping it does turn into an Uber rally/lovefest. People are holding onto so much anger and resentment.. and why?

Developers want transparency too, but if they keep everything transparent there won't be anything they can show to press which mean lower sales and less money to continue work on the game. :(

Can you imagine what they would have to deal with if they had 100% transparency in what they were doing? It would be hourly flame-fests.

Wasn't the game paid for upfront?

Partly, but I'm sure their calculations on after release sales are also VERY important to their survival. I think the kickstarter money was enough to get them to the point that they could start selling other copies. IMHO

Do you mean $2.2M collected on kickstarter (minus fees)? It's only part of budget.

Many players on this forum want PA to become more successful than Supreme Commander and budget of SC was $11.5M and it's was developed mostly 10 years ago so it's even higher number now.

Oh. Okay. Then my mouth is shut. Hmm. I just wasn't knowledgeable of actual development costs when stacked against games of "comparable" scale.

We're less vocal these days. I for one am having a much more fruitful conversation talking to a wall.

I've no doubt that the intentions of everyone who posts on these forums are good. We all want the game to succeed, we all want to have our input, we all want to make suggestions and feel like we're being listened to.

PA is a very strange beast. It has a way of invoking very strong emotion in people, in a way I've not seen in a game before.

Hopefully we can channel this passion and enthusiasm into celebrating what has been a full two years of solid endeavour by Uber and the community, and reflect back on the long road that has led us to where we are.

For just 25 metal a brick, it was a bargain.

Well in his defense the wall doesn't have an opinion or any way to vocally communicate that it disagrees with him. Must be nice...

Yeah first time I hear about this number I was little bit shocked.
Thanks to Chris Taylor who disclosed this number if one of interviews (link).

I think the reason for this is because it's the only RTS worthy of the name released in the last half a decade. It's like, our only chance. It's the oasis in the middle of the desert. So everyone wants to help it succeed, but at the same time to take it in his possession and control it. At least I know that's what I want, lol.

If half a dozen RTSes were coming out every year, as they used to a decade or so ago, things would be very different. We could say then "Well, if PA doesn't deliver, someone else will". But there's no one else anymore, and barring a Chris Taylor reentry into the genre, PA is our only hope.

This is an interesting stance to take, given that you used to be part of a group of people who had direct contact with the devs, and even a degree of insider knowledge as to their thinking . Was it really that harrowing that you now take every opportunity to tell everyone that Uber just won't listen to us?

I'm still really happy how PA is turning out, and look forward to the next year, or two, that devs continue to,work on it.

I don't know anything about negative talk of the game. Partly cause I just bought it.

I've been aware of PA since the kickstarter launched. But never really followed it on the forums. I do own Total Annihilation (original CDs), Supreme Commander+FA and Supreme Commander 2. And absolutely love all but SC2.

So when PA became available it wasn't "I might buy it" was "I'm going to buy it as soon as I can afford it". So the idea of anyone saying anything bad about this game, really pisses me off! That being said, is PA in it's current state ready to be called "ready for release"?
    Yes.

Is there still lots of room for positive improvement?
    Yes.

I for one would like to see an alternate tech tree add. So that your opponent isn't just attacking you with the same stuff you've got. And although I understand the login thing and think it's a brilliant idea to counter piracy. I'd really like to be able to play a singleplayer game (skirmish or campaign) locally, not over the internet.

Lastly, This game is awesome! And if no more updates ever got made from this point on for whatever reason. You would here no gripping and moaning from this TA, SC, SC:FA PA fan!

    Thank you for this game.

welcome to the forums! Yeh I bought in on this on Kickstarter purely because of my TA days as a teenager.
So, the tech tree thing is pretty much a definitive no, as it was always planned to have just one set of units, so everyone has a fair shot with what they have.
Offline play was supposed to be ready for 1.0 release, but has now been pushed back slightly. Still likely to be soon though.
Uber has stated several times that there is a lot of work still to be done on the game to make it into their true vision, but I suspect the 1.0 release is what they concede is a solid and fairly complete version of the game.

I guess the negativity stems from people feeling like they have been lied to about certain features, or release dates , or PR disasters etc. I dunno, IMHO and according to Jon Mavor himself, videogame development is hard. This is a smaller team, with a smaller budget, probably less time, and a whole boat load more public scrutiny than when they made TA etc. I think they've done pretty well, all things considered. I mean, it's a wholly unique take on RTS with a whole lot of epic features already, with more to come, so I'm excited.
