In galactic war, it's getting sort of annoying conquering almost an entire system, but I don't have much to show for it thanks to half of the systems that I conquer giving me duplicate tech. Why not have every system you conquer give you something you don't have, unless it's tech that you can have more than 1 of (the only ones that come to mind are sub commander and data slots) Also, getting tech, and then receiving other tech that supersedes it, but still getting the inferior tech. For example, I have complete naval tech, but I still get 4 drops of basic naval tech. Also, starting with a specific type of unit (say, air) but still getting basic air tech as a drop. It's really an annoying part of Galactic War; is there a mod that fixes this anywhere? I don't know how difficult it would be to mod it in so that duplicates of tech you currently have don't get dropped.

They are trying to give you a "fresh" experience every time you start a GW, and they just randomize the decks and planet names etc. It's about luck, also GW still have a long way to go, so many features can be added in.

I understand Galactic War, it's a really fun game type, I like how every game is unique. What I don't like is when I conquer half the system, but I don't have anything in my deck because I got 20 "Basic Vehicle Tech" over and over. My problem isn't that it's randomized, it's that the possibilities for the tech you get from each planet don't consider what you already have.

You could try the gw loadout mod, it offers 8 new nice loadout. Some make the game easier some make it even more challenging.

I wholeheartedly agree. Galactic War is fun; discarding tech, be it duplicate or utterly worthless (+armor / +speed etc. when you don't even have access to basic production) isn't. GW is a work in progress, and I'm pretty sure issues like these are on the dev's radar, but it can't hurt sharing some impressions.

Actually, with the GW speed tech hotfix, games become hilariously quick. In one game, I happened to get a bunch of speed tech that applied to my commander, armor boost for my comm, and basic air tech, and so every game all I had to do was
    (quick build air plant)
    (find enemy commander)
    (comm rush enemy commander)
    (boom game done)
In less than 3 minutes if they were close, and it was almost guaranteed win, thanks to the armor buff to my Comm

I think that getting some sort of tech that might be seen as useless is better than tech that is completely useless because you've already got it, or something that supersedes it (complete air tech vs basic air tech) At least then, you've actually got something for conquering a system, instead of a "HAW HAW"

I think I had one or two memorably runs where efficiency tech or air armor significantly changed the way games ran (in my favor).

In most other matches, I'm throwing out production tech left and right because I'm either running out of slots or because I lack the ability to produce said tech in the first place.

You mean like, you keep getting advanced (whatever) tech and you don't have the basic version yet? I know these feels. Also, getting advanced defense tech early in the game, but you don't have any advanced constructors, so you can't use it.

I just thought of a possible solution that shouldn't be too hard to implement, at least easier than trying to code so you don't get duplicates.
When you conquer a system, instead of getting a random tech thrown at you, you get to pick from a list of 2-5 possible techs, maybe depending on the difficulty of the galaxy, or maybe even the difficulty of a particular system.

I would also suggest a buffer of 3 cards. That way one can hold cards back instead of destroying them, applying them in case one gets proper cards later on.

Cards in the buffer have no effect in a game.

Cards can only move from the buffer to the active deck, not from the active deck to the buffer.

When you find a card, you can decide whether to discard, put in buffer or straight in the deck.

Would keep the deck strategy but reduce the extreme randomness.

Doesn't protect from streaks of identical cards though.

Also don't think a deck with no other builders (orbital) is viable and results in countless attempts to start a new war, hoping for at least an enabler card so one can build combat units and fabbers. That right now is really terrible IMHO.

Don't forget, being able to delete any card in the buffer to make room.

Do you think this could be combined with my other suggestion for picking from a list of techs after conquering a system? These seem like really cool ideas that could greatly improve the user-friendly-ness of GW, and make it a lot more fun. Anyone into modding think they could make a mod along these lines? Possibly a combination of non-duplication, conquer list, and tech buffer? Would be super cool to have something like that.

Right, removing from the buffer should be an option as well!

The 3 card solution is certainly a good idea, I wouldn't see any reason to not combine both ideas.

The extreme randomness of cards would still remain an issue though, so while both ideas are good additions in my opinion, the underlying card system still needs some extra work without nullifying it completely. Maybe generate a card pool and apply a limit per card type in the pool. Such as technology cards get one spot per card, armies maybe 3 per type, databank slots max 5 etc.

That needs to be balanced per system size as well.

I think that the randomness wouldn't be so much of a problem if the buffer and the option to pick a card from a list were implemented. I think the randomness is good, but limitations on which ones you get, based on which ones you already have, and a system such as the buffer, and pick-from-a-list system, would give you more choices with what tech you have, but still maintains the randomness of it, which I really enjoy.

If you get 3x the same card (or possibly type of card say defense type, or intel type). Then you can trade all three in for a new card which is guaranteed to not be one of those re-rolled. Again either a new type or just a different card if going with 3 of a kind. Perhaps even add some bonus type cards that never have an effect on the game but when collected can be traded in for something special... maybe something that applies to your account and can then be used every war...

Wholeheartedly agree. Solving problems with duplicate tech would help deal with the high variability in GW difficulty: right now, you could have two runs of the same basic map - with one entering the eighth battle with 7 slots of useful tech, and the other entering the eighth battle with just four useful techs because they drew a bunch of duplicates. The first run will obviously be considerable easier than the second regardless of the difficulty level chosen - and I don't thing this is something the Uber devs want.

The duplicate tech gets pretty annoying...... Personally, I don't think you should be able to 'hold' tech. You should either take it as is, or not. It makes the game more interesting. But, I getting "basic air tech" when you started with the Air Commander is pretty lame...... it's already hard enough with just one tech to start with.

I hear talk that they are 'Happy with where GW is at the moment'.

You've got some good ideas, but I'd be moving towards making a mod, rather than waiting about for the devs to fix something they don't consider broken.

I always thought that maybe a holding slot would be of good use. Also maybe some kind of system that doesn't completely randomize all the Tech. Something along the lines of earlier in the campaign low tier tech has a very high probability rate.

That combined with the hold slot (a slot to store tech that is currently not in use. Either store until you get an extra slot or your strategy changes and the tech is needed) could possibly make acquiring tech more fun and rewarding?

    [Edit]
I think having the option to choose which Tech you reclaim goes against the gameplay and lore ideas of GW.
