    A Supreme Commander 2 Screenshot.

If you send 40 tanks, the game created an unitgroup. And if you zoomed out, you were able to select the group easy by just clicking the circle.

The game also grouped the units created by the factory.

This should be implemented in pa -> less micro --> more awesome

I also want an easier way to select only certain types of units. Maybe a hotkey while I drag select an area. E.g. I hate having to select all units and then individually remove flying units from the group before issuing the move/attack command. If you aren't careful and you forget to deselect the flying units you can end up sending them flying over a mass group of AA units and lose them all in the blink of an eye.

Maybe the unit selection area, showing which units are currently selected, could group the units by type and then you can select the "unit type" button?

This'd be a very cool feature, indeed.

I also hate how fabbers/commander are second priority when drag selecting an area. Sometimes I want to send a group of fabbers off with an escort and currently this requires multiple select move commands.

It can get in the way sometimes.

    But it would be cool.

I hated this feature and I'm glad we managed to convince GPG in the Beta to make it a toggle-able option. Admittedly it was mostly a matter of UI and Implementation rather than the concept itself. The Strat Icon was huge and if you only wanted to box select a portion of the units in a group but even as sightly graze the Strat Icon with your band box it would select the entire group, forcing you to zoom in in order to have any fine control over your units which kinda runs counter to the idea. In SupCom2, the only result I had from playing with the auto-group system was that it made my units harder to control. Selecting a group of units when zoomed out is already super easy, Control groups give better options then the auto-group system did because you still ended up having to select the Strat Icon normally anyways to begin with unless you also gave the bunch a control group, which just ended up making the Auto-group superfluous.

it's something that is a good idea for PA but will need to be more complex and deserves a new spin because of the nature of the maps and how ridiculously far out you can zoom.

a version of this for the planet surface and another version for the interplanetary level is something PA needs.

How about the ability to select a unit, THEN hold shift to select only units of that type.

This will allow you to select a certain type of unit or pairs over a large scale with precision.

I am aware of Ctrl+Z but I would like to select certain areas of units with my mouse instead of scroll and zooming for targeted and unreliable screen area, kthx.

And if there is a modifier from the already used shift command, then so be it.

It sounds cool but I always turned it off it supcom2 cause you couldn't see the make up of units in the group. I always preferred double click a unit to select all visible units of that type.

If you draw a box over your whole base and it then selects Whatever you have most: fabbers or attacking units. When you do this icons appear in the bottom left of the screen. From here You can click the unit type you want. Click once and it will select all that unit type in the group and two times for all that unit type on the planet( not sure how this works multiplanet) I'd love a mod that numbers these 1-9 and you can hotkey them instead of clicking.

The op suggestion would have to be toggable so I can turn it off. I tend to split up those blobs more often that I should.

That feature was, if I am not mistaken, a compromise to make the game playable using a console controller.

It was a very bad feature. As RTS user interface goes, it is wildly inferior to almost every other UI on the market for both information detail and ease of precise control.

It was also a fairly major red flag that the strength of an army can easily be reduced to a blob with a number rather than deployment, positioning, or other factors.

I completely agree that PA would benefit greatly from improved command and control features, but copying SupCom 2 is just not a good idea.

Few rts games actually do have deployment and positioning as a factor in how a battle goes.

Besides, SupCom 2 is a casual macro rts.

And is fun in that regard, pretty much solely. (Id love more casual rts games).

I want this feature in PA. I liked it in SC2 and it should also work great in PA.

I was trying to avoid all the clicking,

A hotkey for those unit selections is an awesome idea!

Make a feature request post :)

Edit: but also with the option I suggested you could control 2 types on units at the same time, and not solely have to click on one to dis-select the other(s).

Yeah I tought about that after my reply. I considered something quick like a shift click.

Do units group up into squads now when you select a bunch and send them somewhere? I thought they just ended up walking in a line back like it was 1997.
