Just a random question, I don't know what it is currently.. (I thiiink they can? I dunno')

Anyway, what do you think, should land based radar outside other the deep space radar be able to see orbital on the same planet (within it's area of view)

Poll is pointless, vote which you want, it doesn't actually mean anything though. :D

i think only the advanced should show only the dots in orbit.

    Basic - no.
Advanced - if you can afford one, you sure can afford orbital radar, so it's kinda pointless.

BTW, I find orbital radar to be too OP. Detecting orbitals around the planet - sure. Deep space movement - fine. But orbitals on another planets is too much.

Wow that's a good one. Can't believe you though of it and not me. yeah why the heck not.

I mean deep space radar has "deep space" in the name move it to t2, make is costly: it can see the whole system and not only that : IT HAS UNIT REVEAL full vision basically

so blips shown by radar within it's range seems more than a little reasonable.

Tech wise I already know it's feasible since radar and view are in files i've meddled with to re-make the no-FOW mod and the idea was there were different 3D shapes for any area : "radar", "vision", "range" and by default most of them used a sphere.

the area of a radar is already a sphere. all that's left to do is allow detection of orbital-type units.

side note, as of today, my radar blips policy idea, which received support has still not been considered by Uber, even though it's 100% reasonable. I suggest we make our voice heard about it.

Last I checked advanced radars would display orbital units as simple dots.

I honestly think that the deepspace radar should have a spherical range, within which it can detect any orbital unit, in transit or otherwise, outside that range, units in transit are just dots.

Oh, wow, I cannot believe I never thought about this. My preferred option for orbital radar reveal would be:

Basic Radar - shows dots within its radius
Advanced Radar - shows icons within its radius
Orbital radar - shows whole planet as icons as well as incoming orbital units as dots.
Radar Satellite - shows whole planet dots and icons within radius
Advanced Radar Satellite - shows whole planet icons

I mostly don't want to be able to see what or how much is on other planets unless you send a radar there as it is currently generally really easy to see where they enemy main base is in a glance based on orbital activity.

If I had the option I would also like basic and advanced ground radars to show dots out to maybe 1/3 again their regular radius to account for the fact that orbital units would be coming over the horizon. Or perhaps it could be scaled to the curvature of the planet.

Radar regarding space / orbital seems odd to me.

    • I think the normal and advanced ground radars should stay the way they are.
    • a ground based orbital radar should only show the orbital stuff on the orbital layer of that planet
    • the (deep) space radar should show what is coming to/from that planet it is built on out to a certain range and would not show units on the orbital layer of that planet or any other.
there should be no radar that shows the entire solar system's orbital units.

I think that the orbital and deep space radar should only show orbital and deep space, not the orbital around another planet, that's a bit odd to get that much detail. Leave the other radars be, they are fine as is really.

Deep space radar is soooo cheap for what it allows you to do. Full orbital intel, not just unit location, but unit type, for all planets in the system? that's pretty crazy for something that is built in seconds and could probably run off a single AAA battery.

I don't think we should overcomplicate orbital. Not being able to see all orbital units would encourage longer orbital stalemates, most people don't want that.

It's not really over complicating it's just that orbital radar has the same problem as the orbital adv radar, it sees all, this is especially powerful in mid game where people have just began to colonize planets since simply seeing the astraeus of the enemy is a good guess of where they are and gives you an idea to where to tele drop.

...which may prevent an orbital stalemate.
