Missing features, game breaking bugs and other concerns

    Naval units definitely need some work on movement and following orders.

    You want people to start in orbital? I'd win every time we did - not because I'm REALLY GOOD at orbital, but because most players have no clue what they are doing in the orbital layer or how to use it. Especially the high-ranking 1v1 players. I'm looking at you, Matiz, foerest, and all the rest. Mind, a starting planet on a gas giant would be interesting but also very....very.....annoying for the majority of players.

    These kinds of threads, man. I know they come from a pleasant place, but there's really no "missing features" outside of gas giants. There are things we can improve, sure, and things we'd like to have (totally!), but otherwise we feel pretty good about the completeness of the game you're playing today.

    Please note: I have nothing against these guys, just saying they tend to well.. disagree with Uber's approach at quite a few things. There's nothing wrong with that, it just sorta' happens. This was also an attempt at being funny. ;)

    I think there are a couple of important things missing but they're not what most people would probably think of:
    • Tweaks and balance changes to make Galactic War a compelling single player experience. The specifics have been covered elsewhere.
    • A set of tutorial missions for new players, either standalone or woven into Galactic War somehow.
    • Some JP Lowrie voice-overs. (Yes, I'm going to harp about this forever. ;) )

    Will the following things be satisfactorily addressed before releasing v1.0?

    *Unit Pathing
    *Weapon effects
    *Unit wrecks/reclaim
    *Asteroids
    *Naval Units
    *Offline play
    *Unit Balance (yes this will be tweaked after release, but you would expect it to be relatively stable on release)

    I think people keep making these posts cause we haven't been hearing much from Uber about these concerns the community has. So people tend to freak out and think Uber doesn't know they are there, and freak out even more when Uber says the game is "feature complete for 1.0" (not the same as complete).

    I do have faith that Uber knows what it's doing, and will address these problems. But maybe just to calm people down they should just say "we acknowledge this and that problem" and say they are working on it.

    For me one of these things is naval, we don't hear Uber talking much about it but it clearly needs work. I think it would go a long way if they just said we believe there is a problem but we are still figuring out how to deal with it or it will be fixed later when we can divert the personnel to deal with it.

    That would create 2 categories:
    1)Things people think are problems but Uber doesn't (rants still being posted)
    2)things that are still not working but will be fixed (a certain calmness in shorter posts, as people say "STFU they said they are working on it")

    Like I said, we are staying away from balance and naval and the uc and asteroids for now.

    I'm just waiting for the next milestone update. GIVE IT TO ME. UBER PLS

    Well yes, but the point was a was expecting a rant from one of the three, that's the point of >INB4 :p

    Anyway, in my personal opinion they can be a bit to negative, and partially biased. But they have the right to be. :)

    I would definitely attach the word negative to Nanolathe's posts, but I cannot see that from KNight. Mike may or may not be just as frustrated as Nano, but he keeps his stuff strictly logical and fact-based (for the most part). His opinion does differ from Uber - but he's made that perfectly clear and isn't beating a dead horse. He's also still one of the biggest contributors to the forum community, especially during alpha/early beta.

    I think pathing will get there before release. It will become better and better every update ;)

    Gas Giants are coming, I expect more info soon.

    Weapon effects are something where I'd also like to see improvements in. Like more visible bullets/rockets or lasers for units which leave a nice lighting effect on the ground when they fly past.

    Unit wrecks, well I like to be able to have them visually and for reclaiming. But it's not my biggest priority. Maybe some death animations for units like in supcom?

    Asteroids, who knows, asteroid belts might be cool to have, even if it is only visually in the system.

    Naval, is not used that much anyway and is ok for me. You won't win with rushing it though :p

    Balance, is fine as it is and I guess it will only be tweaked slightly for release.

    Unit cannon, we'll hopefully see that one after release in a nice update ;)

    So all I see here are some small optimizations and only gas giants as a big feature ;) Also the ongoing performance work is going great!! Keep rocking on Uber, I love your game with or without these improvements <3

    KNight certainly does seem to be a bit on both sides, as I've seem him both defend/praise features as well as critique a lot, he's more well rounded I suppose? So yeah, really like I said.. it wasn't meant to be a derogatory thing, just a joke. :p

    Now I am starting to get famous as a negative guy ;)
    Seriously though - I admit my tone can sound rather negative at times since the game is moving away further and further from the game I imagined when I backed such a high amount of money.
    The fact that there is such thin communication about certain subjects (not only the unit cannon) and decisions taken seemingly without any reasoning only fuels my disappointment more.
    I am still having my hopes up about this game, but I feel it is beyond saving without mods.

    To be clear: I do not really care about the money spent, but I would easily pay the same amount again if the game was more shaped like it's predecessors.
