I did a quick forum search for this and only saw results for the xbox 360, so I thought I'd throw it out there. My friends and I actually bought this game thinking that there was offline LAN because we're at a college where they block the ports that online games use. It was quite disappointing when we realized that we have to have steam in "online mode" in order to play LAN, because steam is blocked as well. So far we've had to setup my phone as a 3g hotspot and LAN using that which is quite a hassle. We still love the same, but are just hoping that this is something that gets added relatively soon.
Sorry to be bumping my own post, but seeing as how no one else has even commented on it I just have to ask: Do people really not care about this? Or is it just that they have already stated that it's on the way?
I don't see why this can't be done I suppose. Maybe it would be nice to split Lan and Multiplayer so that multiplayer requires a steam connection, while Lan doesn't. :?:
I would really enjoy offline LAN support in pretty much every PC multiplayer game, but especially ones like MNC that would be fantastic for a LAN party. I end up having LAN parties a few times a year, and we currently rotate the average TF2, CS:S, Unreal and whatnot, but I would love to add this game to the list as I think it would be so much more fun than the others. But as it stands now, I don't think my DSL could handle the throughput of 12 people trying to play online.
So far as I know, to even "click" the multiplayer button and get anywhere on the main menu you must be connected to Steam Online - which of course isn't possible if you just have computers in a LAN setup and not connected to the internet.
Just to test this out again, I tethered my PC w/ my phone and downloaded the must recent update for both steam and MNC - and when clicking the multiplyer button on the main menu, while steam is in offline mode, I'm still getting the message: "Steam must be in online mode to play multiplayer" which makes me quite sad Would be really awesome if you guys made LAN something you can do in offline mode.
i wouldn't mind if the earnings and stats etc in offline mode don't count. i just want to be able to LAN this with friends!!
Gutted, Convinced 16 friends to buy this game, only to discover it does not support offline lan games. We were all hyped about a big lan game of it this friday. Then i search google and discover skidrow have cracked the game to support offline lan. Getting really tired of devs/pubs punishing the legitimate gamers... Id say that i'll never buy Uber game products again but it looks like this was a one hit wonder anyway - money down the drain.
LAN is a dying thing. VERY sad. Getting harder and harder to run LAN events. As anyone who has run a large scale LAN party would know getting an internet connection is hard work at the best of times. Offline LAN FTW!
It's not just Uber. Look at Starcraft 2. To even play the one player mode, you must be connected to the internet, no LAN support whatsoever.
Agreed this game is perfect for LAN much like TF2, anyone can pick it up and have a go and enjoy themselves. Even when they're losing. Unlike COD, etc. Where you need hours of practice before you're even remotely competitive and enjoying the game.
its your job to research products before you buy them. especially for things like offline LAN, which have been dying for years. have some sense of personal responsibility.
