So I've mentioned this before but I am getting a few in game issues stemming from the graphics card I have. Mainly missing in game icons. And its making the game almost unplayable.

I've done searches on the forum and asked questions here as well. I seem to come across the advice to update my drivers in almost every thread. I have done that. And I have the most up to date drivers possible. I have also been told to simply get a new card. And as much as I'd love to I can't afford to right now and I don't think I should have to considering the card runs peachy barring compatibility issues.

I've also seen a few threads where it was recommended to run Linux on a partition and play PA through that. I'm open to doing that but that was a solution to a slightly different problem arising from the HD 4xxx cards and drivers on Vista whereas I'm running Win7

I've also seen mentioned that the drivers you get online either aren't up to date or don't actually replace your current drivers and a manual install was recommended. Any idea on this one?

I was hoping these issue would have been fixed in the recent updates but as they have not I'm starting to lose hope that they will ever get fixed by release. Not that it is particularly Uber's fault but ya know.

Also I've attached my dxdiag in case that will help.

Thanks for any help in advance

Linux does have open source driver for this GPU and they are completely different from what AMD provide on Windows so they not affected by any of Windows driver bugs so it's will solve problem with icons and PA.exe crashes. You'll still need to install two special mods that workaround problem with open source drivers and sun shader, but it's pretty easy.

Unfortunately I can't recommend it as solution at moment because current Linux version have own game-breaking UI crash bug that also isn't quite under Uber control so it's hard to say when it's will be fixed. :(

PS: Anyway in long term you can get better experience on Linux because even if open drivers slower than Windows one they are pretty stable.

Your current drivers isn't latest available so you affected by this problem, but unfortunately it's doesn't make sense for bug you suffer from. E.g if you remove exists drivers that dated as "11/16/2012 " then after clean installation you'll get one from April of 2013, but this won't going to fix icons.

Ugh that's a shame. Installing mods and open source drivers I have no issue with. What is the game breaking bug that is affecting Linux right now? Is it something affecting everyone or people at random? If its random can you point me in the direction of a tutorial or something so i can try it out? Also I have never used a partition before, do you know if PA will run slower through it or anything?

Shame. Darn you AMD for producing reasonably priced but oft incompatible video cards

Open source drivers you need is included with Ubuntu 14.04 or any new distribution so you don't have to "install" them.

Complete UI crash, e.g no input, no UI update.
Everyone, but sometimes it's happen sooner rather than later.

If you bought PA though Steam you just need to install Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Lubuntu 14.04, install Steam, login here and press Install button it's likely all you have to do. ;)

If you're not using Steam then you can check my instruction here:

Not sure what do you mean, but likely you want to install Linux distribution in dual-boot. In this case it's doesn't mater where do you place it on HDD. Only one advice: make backup of important information to external storage before do any manipulation with HDD.

Let's say fair AMD GPUs aren't bad at all and their latest drivers is quite good, but for some reason they just can't create working installers on Windows. :D

Well thanks for all the info SXX. I might work on getting Linux up at some point as a last resort

I'd personally use xubuntu (the different letters in front of ubuntu are sub versions offering different ui- standard comes with a weird side bar called unity and no app menu, the x variant uses the very clean xfe ui which I personally prefer). The install is really easy, and the installer can create a separate partition for you without disturbing your windows install (it will basically steal some free space and create a new drive from the os point of view). As sxx said it's a good idea to take a backup first though.

So I have Xubuntu installed. Thanks for the recommendation by the way cdrkf, I'm quite liking it. However as expected I'm getting some weird graphical bugs. One was fixed by disabling the steam overlay but the other is currently a weird mouse pointer. Its basically a large white pixely square.

What where the mods that you said needed to be installed?

Also one small trick that should improve performance (disable if cause some problems):
    1. Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
    2. Under the General tab click the Set launch options... button.
    3. Enter this into input field:
      Code:
      R600_DEBUG=hyperz %command%
    4. Click OK. Close the game's Properties window and now you can launch the game.
This enable one of driver features that disabled by default due to bugs on some GPUs and should give a bit better performance as result. Same way you can as well set launch options for PA, e.g "%command% --software-ui" (no need for this, just example).

Thanks for those. Everything is working. Getting quite a few glitches that appear. Often just distortion of UI buttons but when I hover over them they seem to fix themselves so the game is playable

Anti Radeon 4xxx series ui? i dont know if there is a fix to it. had to put up with it for a long while, but i just call it 'old-graphics-card-time-to-save-for-new-graphics-card'
    from problems i suffer...
~build area command, doesnt show after you set it.
~unable to see metal icons....this one is a pain since it used to work
~many stability problems with the picture in picture thingy
~dont know if this is 4xxx series specific but uber took away the "windows[Full-screen]" option (left with windows and full screen) and mouse will shift over to my other monitor instead of sticking to edge of screen like it used to, another very annoying bug

If you see any non-UI glitches then it's good idea to make list of them because open source drivers have actual alive developers and bugs can be fixed. Only bugs I personally know is:
    • Incorrect feature lit (darker trees, rocks, etc) on certain level of zooming out.
    • Triangles split by lines on commander explosion effect.
    • Sun shader glitch (not likely going to be fixed).
If you see anything else please post them here with some screenshots.
Then once I get a bit more of free time I'm going to check and properly report all bugs to driver devs.

You can try to fix it using "--software-ui" flag.

No it's not driver problem. Working mouse lock was lost for Windows when game switched to SDL2 on Windows, but @jorgenpt bring it back in latest PTE so next release have it working again.
