My thought about the new Patch super buff Dox. In 1v1 game going Dox only is more effective and cheaper than tanks. With Dox being able to be everywhere at once compared to tanks, the person that goes tanks loses all their expansions because you use end up just pointless chasing Dox hordes . Also the speed of the Dox in small groups makes them literary untouchable by bombers. With losing all your expansions to Dox you lose your ability to mass tank up to combat the swarm of Dox, and its just a snowball effect once that happens. In the old meta Dox were honestly in my opinion almost fine. At this point the person with better micro will win the match. Pros before -Cheap -Mobile/Raiding - Fast ROF Pro after -Cheap -Mobile/Raiding - Fast ROF - AA Unit - Amphibious - Better Range - Better Sight - Micro friendly(more for the EXP players) - Swarmable(because of the range increase) Cons - weak alone not one other unit in PA has this many positive traits for it. I feel if they have to have a sight and range debuff but not as much as the old meta, but enough so they can't single handedly take on tanks then I would say that would be a start.
Dox are really fun to play now. If anything, only price should be higher, dox stats are sweet. Anything less than that and they will suck again.
Depends on exactly how you feel about the Dox, for myself(and seemingly the OP as well to some degree) the issue isn't so much the stats themselves (thought there is room for tweaking still) but rather all the extra capabilities the Dox Acquired. Mike
Agreed *if your playing land*... dox are very op where there's lots of water involved. The other point though is that the *proportion* of dox to other units is rather high in the bit of testing I've been doing. You need lots of groups of dox to raid / defend against raids (or build allot of light defence towers everywhere- which is an option). The real question is though- how many dox is reasonable? Currently I feel like the ratio is about 4 dox : 1 of anything else works quite well, which is perhaps why they feel a little op right now?
I was talking mixed tanks and grenadiers. Mixing dox with anything else is stupid and a waste of metal UNLESS you are defending a small area and it's all you have.
He didn't test in an actual game. He tested an instantaneous metal-metal comparison. It's been proven that you need about a third more eco and factories then your opponent to match Dox vs mixed, and more if the other person goes pure ants.
Not sure about the exact proportion, but yes, this is true. (Hell, I did that quite thoroughly myself.) I wanted to clarify how you had done the testing though. If you had done a metal by metal comparison and gotten a very different result, that would be very interesting. So it's all good, and I'm inclined to agree. Equal metal army, Dox win. Real game, completely different.
The details were in another thread, but the person in question did a number of 10-minute skirmishes, trying to build the most units of either type possible, on the same maps and on randomly-generated ones, so as to get a good sample size.
The point is, you can outmatch an opponent going pure Dox by simply going half dox - half tanks, or in some cases, 65/35.
I totally disagree with this. In every match where I have added in some other units, then that is the tipping-point where I have fallen behind. My tanks get kited and my dox get out-numbered until the difference in units is significant and then I'm as good as beat.
Ants are better in combat and defending. But only useful on maps with a lot of metal or choke points. If the dox player expands quickly and harasses passively they will have the advantage. When you need to spread your base to expand dox are much better. Edit: This is after many games against some of the best 1v1 PA players. I gave them a chance when others wouldn't.
So yeah, the dox might be a little too versatile. And we could probably move some of the functionality to the T1 tank scout, or a new T1 bot. Also, considering that the inferno is a tanky slow flame unit. Can we have a quick fast flamer bot, possibly with a weaker flamer, for tagging bot swarms?
I'd love to see a riot unit in PA, a unit with a slow cooking huge flame would be great, basically... longer range and more aoe but muuuch less damage.
