Preloading a randomly generated system when hosting lobbies

?

Do you want lobbies to let you select a system first instead of preloading a random generated system

    The way things are:
You create a lobby, and a pre-generated system is already loading, slowing down your ability to choose a different system in the event that you don't want a randomly generated system, which most people seem not to.

    The way things 'should' be:
Create a lobby, and immediately open up the system selection screen without pre-loading a random system. This lets the host choose the system without things slowing to a near halt as it tries to simultaneously load one system while another was already loading. In the selection screen, you of course get to choose between random systems, and player created systems.

It's not an end of the world issue, but it definitely bothers me every time I host and have to wait for my click to register due to the cpu and ram being consumed at high rates, and makes the entire process feel delayed and sluggish.

The obligatory lobby request...make the chat section in lobbies auto-scroll so I don't have to manually scroll down constantly to see what the next person said.

    no.

Any PowerUser hates prompts and loves breezing through his day.

you can go look for the prompts if you must.

If you want to host a system though, you need to click that anyways, and then click on the system. This would make everything faster since it skips that first click, and the preloading that comes with it. I consider myself a power user (of sorts), so I admit that I don't understand why you want to do things slower whenever it comes to custom systems.

What I'm suggesting is you just click a system and go. Right now, it loads a system you probably don't want, then you click to select a system, which does so slowly as it's loading the system you don't want, then select the system you do want, and start loading that.

How does this slow down anything? All it does is have to change the loading on the server and computer, it takes a few seconds. It takes less than 40 to completely purge a 3000r planet, at 16GB of RAM.

The slowdown you seem to think of is insignificant.

Edit: As the random systems become better, why shouldn't we be given the option? Rather than having the extra click for something premade. As far as I know, it's fairly balanced on how many use random vs premade. Statistics would be wonderful to see.

Even something as simple as a 'confirm' button under the small planet icons would be great.
Also, many random systems are stupid. Way to big, causing long preloading for some players, causing lag-in game and just drag on for quite some time. Not to mention that in some systems planets collide due to poor orbit selection by the random generator.

I have 12GB of RAM, but who really wants to waste 40, let alone 10 seconds to purge a system they never wanted if they can avoid it? Right now though, there's no option to avoid it, and what I always loved about being a PC gamer is having more options than alternative platforms. I'd be ok if there was a mod that did this if Uber doesn't, I just would like to avoid something that's both inconvenient and perfectly avoidable.

Edit: I'm fine with that, and quite honestly would like to have an option I could click somewhere to automatically host a specific system as my default if that's my prerogative. I'm sure that would be frequently used as I keep seeing "Inner Solar System" systems popping up quite regularly, and for rehosting purposes, and perhaps being able to save the setup used for the prior game, which down the road might include the same mods used like what Forged Alliance Forever does, but a little less complicated :)

Clicking multiplayer and having it automatically load the system selector is pure genius. No reason it shouldn't do this. If you want a random system you can click random system and it works 100% like it does now.

This saves so many minor irritants with UI crashes and lag, etc. It saves time. It's something that's going to be done 95% of times anyway so it saves mouse movements and clicks and time and processing power. The host already has his finger on his mouse at the center of the screen.

Please do this. It's perfect and a minor change that would legit get rid of a lot of headaches and improve quality of life.

Same here. I want to be able to select my system in the lobby rather than have it auto select a random system for me.

EDIT: I would also like to mention that auto-loading a system will consume CPU, RAM, and GPU power. There needs to be a "manually select a system" option to fix this.

I think what we really need is a system to edit the choices on random systems, like what planets, how many, what size. Or drag and drop planets inside boxes that will be systems to generate systems on the fly.

But for now i agree that the random system should only load when i click random.
