Pathing for naval is utterly botched no matter which way you slice it, naval structures no longer have buoys on them anymore, shallow water is a curse, and underwater slammers are the icing on the cake. I played a game where 75% of the surface area of the planet was water, but still got beat because my naval can't go in a straight line. When I give them move commander, they do 360 spins and wait a few seconds to move reallllly slow. T2 naval can't take a blob of slammers. They just... can't. It's surreal. You have the largest and most heavy hitting unit in the game get beat up by little bots. It's so silly... At least sonar isn't a thing anymore eeek
I just watched a match were naval units got stuck on nothing and simply wouldn't move at all in anyway. The most powerful Naval unit is the Slammer. I'm actually editing a video right now showcasing the broken pathing of naval and brokenness of Slammers. Naval pathing DESPERATELY needs to be fixed before 1.0.
Uber, I have an idea. Take T1 naval from Statera And implement it into the game. Take T2 as well if you wish, but I know you like upgrades and T2 Statera naval isn't upgradey at all. If Uber doesn't want to mess with naval themselves, they should at least take the implementation of it in a mod and implement that.
Here's a link to a very recent game which pushed me over the edge to make this thread. Nothing against miller, but you can see how silly pathing is with naval. http://pastats.com/chart?gameId=187380
There was a post recently where Scathis said he hadn't even tried the other balance mods. This makes me utterly sad as we are on the road to a devastating 1.0 release (balance wise) when the proper solutions (RCBM / Statera, or a combination of those two) are right in front of us and are being ignored.
Not on the thread subject, but I have indeed played with both mods and shared what they do with the team. We're aware of them, and the changes they make. (They're really cool, too, if I may add.)
Again, not really the subject of the thread, but Metabolical and Sorian have tried Boom Bot Wars. Gotta get Brad to give it a go, I'm sure he'd love the bot spam Even though naval balance is completely screwed, I think orbital should be a bigger focus than boats right now, because it needs big mechanics changes and/or new units, whereas naval pretty much just needs numbers changed. Also I don't like under water units. Too hard to see, too easy to hide under boats. I'd take hover-tanks over scuba-bots any day.
That's not a loaded question Brad. He gave you a direct question, I think it deserves a direct answer. ;D
I'm so glad to hear that you've given them both a try! Maybe you give that new tourney a try, it'd be fun to see a dev in the tournament x3 Anyway, yeah, like nanolathe said what'd you like about either mod? Favorite little bits, things you might consider worthy of the base game?
I knew Slammers were good. I have a great fear. If T1 bots become viable, then T2 bots will become the main thing, because Slammahs are JUST SO DELICIOUS. I love them, personally, pls no nerferino. Yeah and naval is screwed in the live build! I have every confidence that it will be fixed though. You have no idea how much I love this statement. I remember when you guys did the balance live stream (with burning trees and smores!) and it seems that you guys are pretty much the only game company who has ever openly said anything even remotely hinting at being open to changing design goals or principles which are normally set so hard in rock that you'd have to threaten the lead dev with his life in order to change them. Not that that's what that is, but. . . And n-not like threatening lives is normal or a-anything! Ha, ha! I guess it's more accurate to say, you're the only devs I know that even acknowledge the existence of sexy mods and are willing to say 'hey, they're awesome'. <3 <3 <3 Now only if Sakurai would do the same with Project M. D:
Jaedrik: I heard tell through the grapevine that Red5 is very receptive of their fan's input or something like that, or is it the opposite? Anjiera: Jaedrik do you want the dirt or the sunshine about them? Jaedrik: Both. Anjiera: tbh they probably listen to the community a little bit too much good bad or indifferent but the dirt well since some are in here I'll keep it to myself Jaedrik: Alright, thanks Anjiera. Someone make an interesting remark in the Uber forums about them. I said something like there are very few devs that would ever change their overall design principles or goals, and someone said something about Red5, so Jaedrik: I wanted to hear about it, thanks. r5s_Brogrammer: I prefer the criticism Anjiera: yeah I'd prefer not to get my friend who works for them in trouble Jaedrik: If that's the case, you shouldn't have even said that, Anjiera! Jaedrik: Okay, well, see you guys, I'm gonna go check out this Firefall thing. Jaedrik: o7 I cut out the irrelevant text. Neat! I love having internet adventures like this. (I'm inferring that r5s_Brogrammer is one of the devs )
hehehe Another soul hooked on yet another fascinating PC game. Brian, I'm going to get you for a fourth time someday
Hardly! I've committed myself. My games for the forseeable future are PA, PlanetSide 2, and Smash (4, Melee, Project M) I just said I would check it out. I usually have no interest in RPGs I was planning on downloading the new UT when it comes out, but. . . Here are my objections to it. Well, this is some thread derailment! But! I have one more post I'd like to speak about. (edit: previously said proud of, but I realize pride is evil ) It seems that my recent internet efforts have all been directed to this point, so it's no wonder that I've somehow worked it into a conversation from another forum I love Anyways, here's me talking with David Carey, producer of PlanetSide 2. Like, the 50th edit: I talk about Uber Entertainment/PA in this post too, and he acknowledges it And his response, and my response to his response. Like 60th edit: OH DID I MENTION THAT BOTH FORUMS NOW HAVE THE VENERABLE FACE?! Holy crap what am I doing with my life writing all these things on game forums? I also remember writing a 5 page essay on Smashboards about how Anna is the most ideal/best choice for a Fire Emblem newcomer in the next Smash, and smashed every argument against her from every opponent who dared contradict me! HAHA! . . . That's even worse. Final edit: The community is often an underutilized resource. We have hundreds of passionate, ready, and willing co-developers who have extensive gaming experience waiting to give their input, if they were but an informed playerbase. Uber's done better than the vast majority of devs to this point
Wait a second. The Planetside 2 developers actually communicated you in a manner that wasn't dismissive or sarcastic? WHAT THE - I don't want to get back into the game right now, so I'll just stay over here - especially since I hated all the infantry buffs they were handing out without paying attention to the effects it was having on the playerbase. Now I come to find out they did it on purpose?!?! I can't say I'm surprised, but man. Their game, I guess. I also like to mention Uber to other gamers - as in HEY! YOU THINK THESE GUYS SUCK? COME LOOK AT THESE GUYS! it's usually quite effective
