We already have a hotkey for idle fabbers.

Don't see the reason to not add a button.

    But hotkey > button

i like buttons they give an easier learning curve for noobs. making them optional could help having both (hotkey for the rts veteran and button based controls for my gf and her friends).

    Settings > keyboard shortcuts.

I'm pretty sure the default for selecting idle fabbers is "f"

ill try it out. i love hotkeys but they can be hard to get used to if ur new to the rts (I've seen it happen with my own eyes O.O) a more mouse on experience could help uber reach that market

the more player the more money uber has therefore the more appealing it seems to continue listening to our dumb ideas! and since I've been recommending this game to everyone i know plus their cat, i have witness first hand that noods don't go looking for the appropriate hotkeys to play

One button is enough, we certainly don't need one for each subgroup of units.

However, UI changes should be made to improve the game, and not just in order to appeal to more players.

more player-> more money -> more improvement
might be wrong but thats the way i see it. plus it does not change the gameplay only the hud. and the beauty of my proposal is that they are completely OPTIONAL

A community's growth usually comes at the expense of its quality. Just take a look at the largest gaming communities out there - LoL, CoD, WoW.

Not saying that Planetary Annihilation will see those kind of players numbers - the comparison is kinda hyperpolic, I'll freely admit. But there's a certain line that has to be drawn in terms of making a game easier and more accessible. A button for idle workers obviously isn't an issue, but your blanket statement "more players = better game" isn't something I can subscribe to.

Well i think it could be put in, just make a option in the menu for it to appear or not. You are a pro just disable it and you wont even know it's there. But for noobs it can really diminish the learning curve. Heck just do it like hotbuild does, give people their button and in it make so it appears the hotkey for it, so people learn how to use the function and then memorize the hotkey.

People tend to forget what it's like to be a newbie :p, everything that can be done to ease the learning curve and can be optional, should be done ;).

I think of it as training wheels. It's like saying "I know how to ride a bike, I don't need or want training wheels on my bike! So no one should have them."o_O

No, no, no. He means a different cat. The one you are thinking about is not the correct cat.
