    40 size 200 planets have a surface area less than that of 1 size 1300 planet.

    Anyone up for chaos?

    Isn't there still a hard limit of around 10 planets? I had a system of 12 200r planets, but I don't think they all spawned.

    Before limit was 16 planets, but I not sure if it's still there in latest version.

    Just tested that. Limit is still 16 planets and looks like still enforced on server-side. :(

    That's what we get for modding client-side to hack past limits :p

    I really wish the planet editor would list planet size by surface area instead of by diameter/radius.
    This is what we are really interested in; defining the size of our playground.
    But few people understand that the surface area is exponentially proportional to the radius and build systems with multiple 1000+ size planets.

    Oh god, multiple 1000+ my computer might as well commit suicide.

    I have tried single 1300 size planets, not nearly big enough. More! More!

    Excellent, so if I ever have to play you I just make sure it's on my custom system of 6 planets of 1250-odd size!! :cool:

    It's easy enough to work out though - it's 4πr^2 or πd^2, so about 3d^2.
    If you now assume d=xy, and give x a constant value of 100, you get a = 3(xy)^2 = 3(x^2)(y^2); you've already set x=100 so you get 30000y^2

    So if y=1 then diameter = 100 and area =~ 30k
    if y=2 then diameter = 200 and area =~ 120k
    y=3, d=300, a=~270k
    y=4,d=400,a=~480k
    5, 500, 750k
    6, 600, 1.08m
    7, 700, 1.5m
    8, 800, 1.95m
    9, 900, 2.5m
    10, 1000, 3.1m
    11, 1100, 3.65m
    12, 1200, 4.4m
    15, 1500, 7m
    20, 2000, 12m
    30, 3000, 27m
    50, 5000, 75m

    They're only approximate but close enough.

    I know it is just elementary mathematics, but I am not going to play around in the system editor with a calculator on my desk. This is a game, games are supposed to be fun and relaxing (or stressful and intense in the case of PA). I do enough calculations at work that I don't care to do any at home on my time and I bet that I am not alone on this.

    Personally I think instead of an arbitrary limit to the number of planets, they should limit the total system area by target memory footprint (like TA did with maps back in the days where ram was measured in mb)....

    So you could start a template for 8 gb ram map, and limit accordingly, similarly for 12 and 16 gb etc...

    You could then display the ram requirement in the lobby browser, it would probably avoid allot of issues with newer players no understanding the memory requirements properly.
