... a date? I keep seeing references to it everywhere but no dates? That's when we get offline play too right?
Actually offline may be pushed back just a bit for Uber to finish up perfecting the server, 1.0 has no official release date, but it may be pushed back slightly as they are reconsidering their stance on the ladder.
Of course there's an official date for 1.0! It's the same as the official date for the unit cannon, ladders, gas giants, offline play, and save games. SOON(TM)!
You know Uber, no ETA's and no dates unless they're 110% sure they can make it. Which I honestly love about them. I'd much rather be in the dark on dates than disappointed at delays.
I don't even care if v1.0 comes next year. I want a full featured v1.0 that will satisfy every single new player. That might sound weird but the more players, the more support which equals more and better content.
There is no such thing as satisfying everybody though. It's just impossible. But the more the better!
Why is everyone talking about it then? Talk about smoke without fire :| Why did they even put it in their newsletters? So while the programmers are getting down and dirty what are the graphics peeps doing? I haven't seen a new unit or biome in hella long time.
I asked @neutrino about biomes on the Reddit thread and he said don't expect any biome changes for quite some time.
The reason we're talking about release is Uber talked about it a few times and have stated that's the next big milestone. Btw there have been a couple of new units added recently, the last addition was the 'Blue Hawk' T2 missile bot. They also modified the GIL-E so that it can shoot down missiles (both from Blue Hawks and other things, e.g. the T2 bomber and the catapult). Based on recent comments from Uber I wouldn't expect *many* more units to be added to vanilla PA. The next units are likely going to be related to Gas Giants which are being worked on at the moment apparently (when they'll be in we don't know, but I think Gas Giants will require some additional orbital stuff which will be good). Also I think the unit set isn't bad for an initial release. You must remember that both TA and SupCom got loads of stuff added later on or in future releases. If you really want more units I'd recommend the Statera mod, they've added quite a few additional units and rebalanced allot of things, the mod is available through PAMM.
While development is underway for PA uber has made a couple of entirely other games. If those games are done with is it likely they'll go back to making a few units for PA at least? Maybe make some slightly different looking projectiles for some of the units? A couple different laser colours? I don't really want to mess around with mods because if the game is in a state of flux then so too will the mod but thanks for the recommendations.
Its actually got more units than many RTS's, its just divided between many different factorys and orbital, theres somewhere around 30-40 units, and thats not including PA's enormous amount of buildings. (me and my friend discussed, TA/PA is about area control, so thats appropriate) I think they are doing the right thing and releasing it after ladder, it could stay in alpha/beta/gamma until the game dies internally, but it has enough to keep new player playing ... hopefully. (after ladder is released) So long as they continue updating as fast as league does, (approximately 1-2 weeks), players should keep coming back to the game and finding more, whilst constantly trying to improve their rating on ladder. (i actually have several friends waiting for ladder to come out before playing)
This myth needs to die. Yes, sometimes an update will break a mod. However it's often trivial to fix. Also, what makes you say that the game is in a state of flux?
