The 4000 series cards were awesome, but it isn't surprising amd have dropped support for them, they're 7 years old now I believe. Interestingly the 5000 cards are still being updated thanks to them being dx11, anyone who purchased a 5850 or 5870 should be laughing as those beauties can still push 1080p high settings in the latest titles (a friend of mine only just upgraded as he finally found a game he couldn't max at 1080, and he ordered his on launch day).

The thing is: I'd have to pay at least 70-80 € for a semi-decent upgrade (e.g. an R7 250x), as the HD 4850 still beats most cards up to the 50-60 € price range. And even if I'd upgrade, I couldn't really enjoy the performance boost, since I'd have to buy a new CPU as well. My Q8200 is sturdy as hell, but it's also 6 years old and usually is the bottleneck when I'm having issues.

I'm not gaming that much these days and the stuff I do end up playing runs fine (FarCry 3, Tomb Raider etc. worked perfectly well, as does PA on most days).

Well ... thanks for your input :). If it actually is a driver issue unique to PA then I'll have to sit that out. But perhaps the next optimization patch reduces the frequency of crashes; who knows.

    Think I've found your problem:
    Driver Date/Size: 12/6/2013

That is a *really* old driver. You need to go to www.amd.com and download the latest stable driver.

Install that and let us know how you get on :)

This is my newest DXDiag, did it change much? I even now have had the issue, my game crashed upon attempting to play it today as well.

Your DxDiag is still showing outdated drivers:
    • Driver Version: 13.251.0.0
    • Driver Attributes: Final Retail
    • Driver Date/Size: 12/6/2013 15:01:52, 1318552 bytes
You should go for a clean driver reinstall. Uninstall your old drivers (Device managers -> Graphics -> uninstall), reboot your PC, install the new drivers. When finished, the drivers should be from April 25th, 2014, with version number 14.10.1006. Note: driver release date may vary; driver number should not.

Latest drivers for HD 4000 series are dated 10/15/2013. Are you sure you have the latest?

Concerning issues unique to PA: PA uses OpenGL instead of DirectX to be compatible with Mac and Linux. Since not that many programs use OpenGL on windows, that layer may have bugs in the windows drivers. If the latest driver still has issues, contacting AMD may be an option, as they somewhat promise to still resolve "application specific issues".

The latest download is from 10/15/2013. The driver version included dates from 4/30/2013 and that's the latest availabe. Catalyst will notify me upon attempting to upgrade that I already have the latest version installed, and a clean re-install won't yield other drivers.

OpenGL implementation crashes is not only issues with Legacy drivers, but AMD likely not going to fix them any more. :(

By the way, I've found a "solution" of sorts for my trouble with legacy drivers: I'll switch graphics cards with my SO. My HD 4850 and her GTS 450 are basically identical in terms of performance, and she doesn't use her card for any games that require brand new drivers.

Ok, so we must be on different playing fields. What driver are you referring? My GPU? Because I thought we were in the hemisphere of GPU in this discussion. If we ARE talking about my GPU, I have the latest version. The latest version came out January of this year. If that is "really old" to you, I'm not sure what else to do as that is the most recent.

blade, please start reading all the replies people are giving you. You do not have the latest driver version. I'll quote my own post from yesterday here:

Download link for Win7 64-bit drivers for your HD 7700.

Getting rid of AMD drivers can sometimes be tricky. If you want to be really thorough, then get a program like Driver Cleaner, uninstall the old drivers, reboot in safe mode, run Driver Cleaner and remove everything AMD, and then reboot again and install the new drivers.

Where does it state the version of my drivers in the Dxdiag? Perhaps I can stop stating it's not working and expect you to help, and I can just investigate a bit to see if your solution works. If not, I will repost.

    Edit:

And after going into device manager and uninstalling that way, it still doens't work. So....Dxdiag is suppose to show what drivers I have? Even when Catalyst, my graphics card's control center program, shows that I'm up to date and the date I had installed the driver?......

If you read under the graphics adaptor section it states driver version and date. Dxdiag reports what is actually being used. Sometimes Windows doesn't recognise the new driver is compatible, so overwrites it with an earlier version. If you follow instructions given earlier to use a driver cleaner tool it should probably solve your issue. The Dxdiag you've posted still shows 2013 drivers, yet newer drivers are available for hd 7700 cards.

So i did as you instructed and I've been playing the game from time to time, I haven't been able to find the time to play the game. I'm just getting annoyed because I'm doubtful It's the drivers. Considering I play so many other games and never have this issue. I've only exprienced this issue with PA, and I haven't a clue why. Are there other solutions perhaps OTHER than drivers that could provide possible results? Because the game runs for periods before it suddenly crashes.
