Orbital platforms are exactly how I'd like to see the gas giants play out. They should be air layer, not orbital only, and have modular platforms that the player can construct any land-based structure on. It would be especially great if the platforms could be mobile, so players could slowly maneuver their entire base to the enemy. The unit cannon could be used to board enemy platforms. Huge airship battles.
