About two years ago I saw the trailer for this game and was like :O

This was going to be insane!! However... I am not the best RTS player by a long shot, but I enjoy the challenge.

However this game is too big now... I want to play on massive maps and have massive battles but there is so much micro, I can't focus on macro. Uber has done a fabulous job and I am really happy how the game is turning out... But I feel ADHD when playing this game. I'll be focusing on one planet, and want to expand... so I do, I go to another planet but by the time I've set up a nice base on planet 2, planet 1 is pretty much destroyed because of the rushing AI.

It may be my fault... but how bout let us skip a few stones before we toss in the asteroid (see what I did there). I was one of the those people that enjoyed SupCom2 and I enjoy StarCraft 2, I even enjoy Sins2 but this game needs to implement some macro control before it's playable...

I may be wrong, but I bet there is some of you that feel this way.

I doubt there are many around this forum who aren't with you there.

we made tons of threads about the UI and tools and about making this game less micro-oriented.

Honestly, I barely micro at all in this game, and all the area commands and the Picture-in-picture windows are really helpful for macro, so i'm not quite sure what you mean by "implement some macro controls" because we already have a whole bunch of them. Could you give some suggestions for what you want to see?

That little screen in the bottom right corner of the screen is your friend.

I do sorta agree but I also feel it isn't really an issue because you can build 1,000 units while you're doing something else. or Shift right click and send aw fabber to build an army while I focus on other things. the infinite build is really useful too because when there is too much going on you and the factory doesn't have anything in build que it'll still build stuff.

Also don't expect to be good at multiplanet games on day one, that stuff is HARD :) or at least the multitasking is.
Took me a long time before I was able to enjoy multiplanet, stick to single planet maps until you are comfy with that.

Have a look at the keyboard controls, there are a lot of hotkeys that select units / factories and stuff that can help you reduce clicking and dragging and scrolling all the time.
You can also set up camera anchors to quickly switch viewpoints.

While there is plenty of room for improvement (for the game) there's actually a good macro focused control set for you to employ.

    how about build queue bar?
build queue as a first class entity?
    multiple rally points by type?
    assist factory with another?
    assist factory with transport?
    edit order queue?
planet-wide or even system-wide build order?

I wouldn't call those "macro" they're just useful in general.
Not sure what you mean by these, more detail?

I can see these being useful.

What this game needs to ease micro is some sort of unit behavior toggles.
Say, when you issue attack order, you can also set target priorities: focus commander, economy first, prioritize threat (like AA for bombers), etc.

Another cool thing might be to set an area for units to gather, and once set number of units in area is reached, they move/attack together to set waypoint. Say, order three factories to produce tanks and set rally point to some area, then issue another area command and set a number, once that number of combat units in area is reached, they all move to some waypoint.
This way you can setup few sets of factories that are focused on certain locations, but instead of sending units to die one by one, they'd group up first.

Being omnipresent is a struggle for me as well. One I watch my own replays, I'm all like 'What the hell man, move those damn tanks already enemy commander is right there', but then I remember that I was managing fabbers on another planet at the time.

and planet-wide orders would be selecting a planet in orbital view by cliking on it and have the build bar of all the factories on that planet (which is something you CAN do ....but manually...)

First one, ok that's cool (not a build cue though, unless for fabbers) second one, I guess? I've never needed something like that though. And last one why not just select the factory you want, zoom to system view, and double-click the icon in the bottom-left? Also something I'd never use, since different planets are situational for me.

these are in my opinion, macro tools. making macromanagement one click away.

Sure, they're macro tools, I don't disagree. But I've never needed the second two.

The Uber team is smart, they will come up with something. I think some for instances would be a selection of the air/vechical/bot factories on one planet, and have them do a build order. I also think it would be cool to see a planet-wide UI. So that you could toggle over a planet and see: What enemies you dicovered there. Just shooting the breeze. :D

I think there already is a hotkey shortcut for selecting all factories of a type.

There are default hotkeys for Select All Factories, Select All Idle Factories and Select All/Idle Onscreen. There are hotkeys for all/onscreen land/air/naval units, but not for specific factory types that I've seen. To accomplish this, I select a factory of the type I want and ctrl-z (to select all units matching the selected unit type(s) on-screen).

    *edit: clarifications

They could take a page from AI wars. How about a button to split up your group into half. For example, you select with the box 20 units containing 10 constrictors and 10 dox. you press L and now you have selected 5 constructors and 5 dox. That would make it a lot easer to split up your blob of doom into smaller mini blobs of doom for flanking attacks. Also, you could press a button to see the range of all turrets, that way you could see a gap in your defenses.

I believe those still only work if they're in view, which makes them fairly useless.

You can tone down the AI in skirmish mode by turning down their resource multiplier from 1.0 down to 0.5 or less. That makes things quite a bit easier.

Eventually Uber plans to implement a pause feature and, if I recall correctly, game speed controls so that you can slow things down to whatever rate works best for you.
