Brand new Win8.1 laptop, with the wonky hybrid graphics (NVidia card and Intel integrated). Launcher installs just fine, but trying to actually run the game gives me "UberLauncher.exe has stopped working" error if run through the NVidia card, and the same plus a screaming pink screen if run though the Intel card. All graphics drivers are up to date (have been fully uninstalled and reinstalled), .NET and C++ are up to date, Windows itself is all updated, etc etc. Currently in discussions with Uber support, but hoping you guys might have some other suggestions! Attached are DxDiag file, plus the Launcher log for both the NVidia card and the Intel card. The only possible issue I can see is that the Log says "HAL initializing", but the computer's name is currently Thuzad. It used to be HAL, but the Launcher was uninstalled, all files deleted, then re-downloaded and reinstalled after the computer's name was changed. Launcher didn't launch when the computer was called HAL either, fwiw. The PnP errors at the end of the DxDiag file are from uninstalling my NVidia drivers, then trying to run Geforce Experience to reinstall them before I actually told the computer t0 scan for hardware, so feel free to ignore them. Any ideas?
Try to download this package: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 Then run it, extract to accessible directory, open this directory, find and run "DXSETUP.exe" installer. After installation finished try to run launcher once again.
Forgot to put that in the initial post, but I've already done that a couple times (currently running DX 11.2 I believe). Tried it again though, still no luck.
I too just unboxed a new Windows 8.1 laptop today and have the same problem. Levono Y50 with 4GB GTX860M.
Both of your drivers are old. Intel: Code: Card name: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 Driver Version: 10.18.10.3383 Driver Date/Size: 12/30/2013 18:00:33, 19950592 bytes To update drivers download and install "Win64_153322.exe" from Intel website: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=3712&DwnldID=23885 If you get "not validated for this computer" error download ZIP version of driver ("Win64_153322.zip") from same page and then install it using this instruction: http://steamcommunity.com/app/233250/discussions/2/558749190911446231/ Nvidia: Code: Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M Driver Version: 9.18.13.3250 Driver Date/Size: 1/24/2014 03:10:24, 18224080 bytes You need download and install latest drivers from Nvidia website: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/75992/en-us PS: If drivers won't fix issue it's will be interesting to investigate this because your configs is actually pretty similar.
Sadly, it seems that Lenovo has some special device id on the video card that I can't update with the Geforce Experience. I'm stuck 332.50 until they decide to update it. That being said, PA has been around for a long while. I'm sure that people ran it back in January when 332.50 was the latest driver. Why can't it run now? Is there a PALauncher log that I could upload to provide more details? Thanks
Ok, I got the latest driver to install using http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/. Here is my new DxDiag. However, PALauncher still does nothing. Well, it does open in the taskbar but it does not have a window. It also seems to have downloaded a new UberLauncher.exe . I've tried running it as administrator but not change. It just takes up around 135MB of memory and about 2% of CPU but without any disk or network activity. I think I might be on the sign-in screen but since I can't see any window I can't sign in to get it going. Is there a command-line way to start it as administrator and provide the sign-in information? I'd probably need to give it the game-key as well. Thanks.
Ok, I found this thread that suggest that I install the DirectX End-User Runtime. [ https://forums.uberent.com/threads/invisible-pa-launcher.60743/ ] I'm getting that from here [ http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=35 ]. I'll let you know. Oh, here is the launcher log from before I installed he DX runtime.
Ok, it seems that I did not read the initial post in this thread very well. The DirectX runtime install appears to have done the trick. Well, it could be a combination of the latest drivers and the DX runtime but I think it is more likely the DX runtime since others will probably have the driver I initial had. Well, the 1GB of files is downloading now so I'll know for certain soon. Rebuilt
Ok, all seems well. I was able to play a couple of turns in Galactic War so I think I'm good. Rebuilt
