    Hierarchy of Realism.jpg

The key is to strike a balance. Right now PA is somewhere around yellow/blue. Let's keep it that way. There's a difference between letting physics slide a little for something fun and just plain silliness.

Magic wreckage that units can pass through - silly
Building Halleys on the sun and moving it - silly
Unit Cannon - Not technically very feasible in reality but acceptable.
Teleporters - Can be easily explained away using technical jargon.
Air units actually needing air to fly - silly by simple observation.
Halleys - completely impractical to say the least but it's not silly until you do the math.

So, like we were saying, we should make naval units push mobile unit wreckage out of the way like ground units do, or have them quickly sink when dead.

I really dont think Uber is going for any sort of realism other then the odd fact that orbital units will circle planets and the sun to get to their destination

Some time ago, I posted this. I believe it is very relevant to any discussion on the merits of realism.

Unlimited parachute dispensers and personal all-surface grappling hooks exist?!

I think that's where approximate physics comes in, Grappling hooks are existing, but the physics of supporting weight on any surface is stretching it, parachutes exist, but the physics of fitting hundreds into a backpack is stretching it.

They've always tried for some realism, but they certainly haven't gone out of their way to achieve it, especially if it interferes with AWESOME. :D

LOL "JUST CAUSE 2 -> APPROXIMATELY REAL PHYSICS" you're off your rocker pass that around bro! xD

apart from that agree. I wouldn't even mind PA going into the green or the red as long as it's fun.

In reality the most unreasonable thing is NOT the teleporter, it's NOT the unit cannon either.

    it's the Hailleys:

That's only silly if you assume that the air units are using air-fed jets. If they are using rocket engines, then it is perfectly fine for them to fly around the moon using directional thrusters instead of their wings for steering.

Even the physics in KSP are pretty fake compared to real life ;)

KSP it tots real life. I mean what rockets don't wobble back and forth and make it into orbit? ;)

I vote any expectation of realism should be completely and mercilessly crushed under a pink Challenger II that has FUN written all over it.

I prefer a bit more awesome against realism. I never understood why some people want as much realism as they can get.

Reminds me of FPS games where the gun would jam. I really thought that was game breaking (the moment you need to shoot it refuses. Damn I was pissed)

Or in Fifa where players can have cramps (like why would you want that? The moment you want to score is the moment the game decides that the player gets cramps) Still pissed for that.

I think PA has a good balance between them.
