Most of you probably already know where I'm going with this, but for the ones that don't, a quick science lesson.

The heat of a nuclear explosion is so intense and powerful that it can literally turn sand into glass almost instantly.
Well, not glass, rather, trinitite. A green glass-like residue first discovered after the nuclear bomb test called trinity. Take a wild guess where "trinitite" came from... scientists suck at naming things.

Now, of course the trinitite isn't just a sheet of glass that appears over the desert floor, but we're not shooting for reality we're shooting for awesome etc.

So, in short, when a nuke hits the sandy part of a desert planet, it'd look REALLY freaking awesome if it turned the sand into trinitite.

    Thoughts?

Have it radius based perhaps, to reduce the amount of time programming. It'd be awesome to see that happen, even if it were only on desert planets. I'm guessing that it would likely be a conditional scorch mark that only applies when biome == desert/sand. However, I don't know if it's so simple since that may have to program in the biome variable to work that way.

    Sorry for phone grammar/spelling.

Indeed, more then just a black crater would be interesting....in fact....we need glass planets and planets made out of crystal, or other interesting things....not just metal O.O

Time to be a party pooper

If there were a list from most to least important polish features, this would probably be the bottom of that list.
Remember, we don't have gas planets yet. We still have placeholder metal points. Metal planets (along with every other planet type) are covered in little clumps of light grey rocks to indicate where you can extract metal. Then there are jungle trees that I think need some work done to them, oh, and icebergs aren't yet in either (pretty sure there are files for them though). Also pretty sure animated lava or smoke particle effects for volcanoes would come before it too. We still don't have new fire effects either, I'm fairly sure that the current one was a placeholder. And probably some thin clouds would be nice, not to obscure the view too much, but to make planets more closely resemble actual planets. And it would be nice if units had some physical representation of how damaged they are, possibly with health dependent discolouration or smoke effects...
And probably seagulls too, for good measure, y'know? Complete with seagull A.I., of course.

On top of that, I'd love to see some sort of nuclear winter effect on earth like planets where plant life starts dying out across the planet after a certain number of nukes have been launched

I'm not saying "HALT EVERYTHING AND PUT IT IN NOW" but it would just be a cool addition to see at some point.

I still don't understand what this has to do with Poland.

Also, couldn't this be done merely by giving the blast decal a little coloring? Doesn't sound very difficult.

Well it'd also have to have the crystalline texture to it.

Not like there is any life on any planet in PA.

This is more appropriate as a mod. I don't know why Uber would spend time implementing this. Still, it sounds cool though. Maybe the trinity the could be extractable?

Unless there's something under the surface. On the desert planets. Something giant.....Maybe some kind of worm...

I would love to see this, but maybe as a mod or post-release.

A water nuke effect would also be pretty cool -
When thermonuclear weapons are detonated near the surface of the ocean a large sphere of water is flash-boiled into steam, which rises up into a dome. Moments later, the surrounding water rushes in to fill the large gap and the section of the ocean in the air begins to condense resulting in a huge wave outwards.

Agreed, I think a "Crystal Biome" (ala TA) would be much more interesting.
