So I've been playing this game, and trying to figure out a decent defense against commander snipes. Air defense is tough, but flak, radar and a couple air factories do a lot to help. Bomb bots are easier to stop once the game gets going, and that problem basically goes away with a few vanguards and some other standard defenses. Anti-nukes are a must at some point in the game and a ground force capable of dealing with T2 vehicles is hugely important. Anchors are basically a given.

SXX are a bit of another deal though because no amount of orbital defense can deal with 5 of them if they can nail a commander on orbital entry. It is always important to keep your commander moving if he isn't needed for building, but doubly so when it comes to orbital lasers.

So I tried to queue up movements for my commander. I tried to queue up a teleporter loop, which worked decently well, but I have so far only been able to shift-click my commander orders. Eventually, my fingers get tired, and my commander's legs stop and stiffen. More importantly, I forget about the poor bastard. What I would like is to set my commander into an infinite loop. Ideally, the commander should not stop to repair buildings or units, but it is acceptable if he does.

I could probably set a unit to patrol and have the commander assist, but it would have to be a relatively slow unit or the commander's path would be relatively unpredictable and there is a very real danger the commander will get caught on some building.

What ways are there to tell the commander to keep on moving and never stop?

Can't you just order the commander to patrol? You don't need to order it to assist another unit.

Shift clicking a patrol route will work for the most part, but the commander will stop to repair and reclaim buildings and units. Area patrol will cause the commander to stop after a short while, and will not so much patrol an area as guard it (this is why I hadn't extensively tested telling the commander to patrol). Furthermore, the commander doesn't push units aside very well and will abort part of his patrol route. This is very important as the commander really should have a land force about him and the surrounding base.

    So yes, it works. Mostly

I have the idea for metal planets, haven't tested it yet, but it might work (in theory it's a good idea). You know there are those pits with bridges above on metal planets, and some of them has slopes that let land units descend there. What if you put your commander in one of those right below the bridge? Then possible build turrets and walls around you.

You can walk under buildings that are built on water as well. Why not try and use them as additional cover to win you some time? Again, haven't tested it.

For lazer snipes you can simply put the commander in a air transport and area command patrol him around the planet its impossible for lazer to hit him than :D Beware though it only works on planets you have total control over, if someone has a foothold on your planet and makes fighters he can shoot your commander down. See other people will tell you about the commander transport thingy but they don't say anything about enemy fighters 1 shotting you. almost as if they are purposefully trolling you lawls.

It also makes nuke sniping your commander impossible, incase they overwhelm your anti nukes defenses at which point you probably lose anyways so yeah :p

The commander doesn't need more exercise, Orbital needs better balance.
