What defines thread hostility? (Able commander controversy aside)

I was just about to hit enter on a very long post.... but just deleted it as I thought this would sum it up a lot better.

I do not wish Uber any harm, and surely not going bankrupt. But Uber needs to get their marketing heads aside for a serious talk. Technically, they did already break the agreement with their Kickstarter's backers.

Anyway, the main topic here should be censorship. Uber needs to stop that as it has been pushed too far.

Be careful with the word censorship. Because this technically is a privately owned forum that they control, there is no such thing as "censorship." They can do whatever they want.

Instead, it's concerning that they lock/delete stuff that criticizes their decisions. There is such a thing as constructive criticism, and Uber seems to be deleting those because it questions their decisions.

What is even more concerning is that there's content that's more inflammatory on the forums that haven't been deleted, while posts that explain why someone doesn't like that Uber did X are being removed.

I do not like this trend from Uber, especially in light of them being less and less engaged in the forums. In the early days, they talked with us all the time and listened to our ideas. The community convinced Uber to add various components to the game, Flak and Gunships being two easy examples. But now... Uber seems to go in the opposite direction of what the community suggests.

Shouldn't you have a supporter of free speech on there, because a nazi would agree.

It is in the armory on PTE but hasn't appeared on stable yet.

But, Brian. That's actually how censorship works. Uber couldn't censor content if they didn't had the ultimate control over this forum.

Regarding the other points of your last comment, I'm pretty much in line with what you said.

You throw a party in your home. You invite some friends and the neighbors.

One of them is suddenly saying you suck and are the worst person on earth.

Is throwing him out of your house censorship?

You don't make him unable to say whatever he wants, you make him say it outside your house, that's all.

Uber did not censored anyone.

This is not party. This is an official Forum about Uber's products, where people paid to voice their opinion. Let me say it again: we paid for it. It is part of the product we bought with the Early Access.

When Uber locks down threads, or deletes any of them, it enforces censorship.

Period. There is no way out of it.

I can agree that moderation is occasionally necessary. However, deleting threads very rarely it is. What Uber clearly does it to *censor* specific contents and topics, 'cos it has no intention to discuss them. And that sucks big time.

People are not paid to voice their opinion. I don't think you understood what you bought when you paid for the game.

You don't need to buy anything to use the forum.

You've paid for a license to use the game. They can even revoke your license if they want to, as long as it doesn't break any law.

Giving a slap in the face of your backers is one thing. It's not the first time, and sadly probably not the latest.

Taking them for idiots is another.

You can't seriously say that the Able commander took a week to make.

If it's true, you should seriously re-think how you are developing the game, because it won't be out before 2020.

(I'm NOT talking out of my ***, I'm a look-dev supervisor, and the kind of work you did is something I ask to a junior or an intern to do in a afternoon or a day at most).

You get interns to sketch, prototype, finalise and implement a part of your end product on a daily basis?

Man, I'd love to see some examples of your team's work. That's an insane turnover rate. That's like clearing a week-long agile sprint in a day.

On that commercial, the fur grooming, texture and the textures of the costume changed sometimes 2 times a day. It's not an insane turnover rate, that's quite standard in the industry.

If someone give me a .obj file of the progenitor commander, I can do 3 differents and unique commander by tomorrow.

Helpfull, hostile, sometimes i think people don't even see the difference. If your way of helping is showing another way, that still is helping. The receiver makes it into hostile if he/she feels threathend by the alternative. Thats obviously not helpfull for the helper as well as the one in need of help as we all have experienced.

Fact that Uber is officially dissappointed in their community and asking them why is telling me they probably will soon start to finally listen properly to their community again. There is no point asking a why question if your not prepared to listen to the answer? To me, them asking this question is the first step in the right direction. Its realizing you haven't arrived at the station you aimed for.

I think the community should just answer it in all honesty to help them get back to where we all want them to be. Because at the moment, things are not so great as we can see in our dissapointment in their product, according to them.

Ofcourse this is the uber forum, they make it into what it is now. They are the builders but the bricks they use to build it are people.

People will be people and actions will have consequenses. If you don't have the ability to correctly forsee those consequenses you should adapt and make sure you will next time. It might look the easiest to put all blame on the community (aka the customers) but on the other hand, you can get a mirror and take a look, your just as human as all of us, we all make mistakes and we all got 2 arms to work on fixxing the mistakes.

Make sure effort goes into dissolving the problem, without making it come back twice as hard in another way is my advice and ofcourse, we all hope constandly we don't have to be dissappointed, it just happens from time to time.
