Have I been muted?

Long story (relatively) short:

Someone gained unauthorized access to my computer about a week ago and troll'd a bunch of servers--cussing everyone out via microphone.

My microphone function has not worked since that incident, and I've been wondering if I've been permanently muted. When I press and hold the key to talk (mine is binded to 'v'), I hear a cranking noise and the speaker icon does not appear next to my name on the scoreboard.

Have any of you had this problem?

How did someone access your PC? Do you play videogames at work? At the orphanage?

McNab, I simply left it running when I left my home. Usually my room is locked, but apparently I forgot to lock it one day. Of course, I do realize that it is my fault and I have full responsibility of the actions of the person, as it is my account. But, I want to know if it is an issue of me being muted, or a technical issue.

Any suggestions on what I should do? I completely deleted the game from my PC and reinstalled it, but with no success. I've checked some of the console commands, but I could not figure it out.

My guess would be that your mic is broken. You've given me no indication that it is working in the first place. Also, how would you know it isn't working, did anyone say "can't hear you"? Just because the icon doesnt show up on scoreboard, shouldn't mean that it isn't working. I believe that even happens to me sometime.

Also, a word of advice, don't use in-game voice support. It's pretty bad, but I <3 you Uber.

Yeah seriously it's most likely a mic issue.

Well, it works well for my other games and Skype. I will take Mibuwolf's advise and seek an alternative way to talk while playing this game. Sorry, Uber! :?
