CALM DOWN! Let me explain. In GW, the idea of WYSIWYG was kind of taken slightly less seriously (with the card system and such) So, I think the idea of random, game-effecting events (catastrophic weather, for example) deserves a second thought for GW only. That's really it. What dost thou think?
Our principle has been that random stuff that messes up your stuff over which you have no control is not fun. I don't see how galactic war changes that.
I'm still opposed to random events. Just because it's against the AI doesn't make it suddenly fun to lose because of a random lightning storm over your base.
Random disasters are bad. Random events not so bad. Random disasters are just annoying and mess up with your strategy (though I could argue that in an AI only game, anything offensive the AI does is a random disaster. In multiplayer random disasters are unfair, in AI matches they are not because there is no concept of fairness there), but random events on the other hand can open up new strategical possibilities, allowing you to gain an advantage over the enemy. Though this only applies in some cases. Maybe the events should be restricted to ones which give you an advantage, or give you and the AI equal advantage. I cant come up with any such events though xP New planet appears out of nowhere? ,_,
You mean like playing bot commander in PTE, randomly not getting any other factories, and randomly fighting an AI with air (advanced air at that) in the first battle? I guess it can be argued that I still have some control - I can turtle up under missile towers and try to expand, and when coherent stops crashing I may try taking the com to the front for AA and building missile towers without being trivially carpet bombed.
