Sorry if it's already been mentioned in this thread but I saw 6 pages or so and thought "Nope, aint reading through them all"...but yeah this is an awesome bug and I encountered it myself in Galactic War. I think there should be some kind of illuminated lights for night time to make things visible in the night, and also greatly reduce visibility of units - I'm not saying absolute pitch black like this is, but maybe a situation where night time blocks out anything that isn't in your line of sight to absolute black, and scouts and radars become worthless because it could reduce line of sight to much lower amounts, disabling radars altogether - sorta a hiding mechanic :p. And like I said, maybe illuminating lights to place (that run on power or something) could make it more awesome to have lit up bases at night.

Frankly it just adds more purpose to night than just being visual. Even the bug makes nighttime have so much more effect and feel so different from day, whereas normally it's just day but grayer.

I also would like to know why the artguys say nope to this awesomeness!!! The pitch black might be too black, but a bit darker nights might be nice :)

Attached are 2 files - one with default 1.0 ambient intensity, one with 0.2.
The darker one looks tons more awesome - I cannot understand how anyone would prefer the lighter one in terms of looks.

Oh HELL yes! I am all over this.

I can see why the art team wouldn't want it to be pitch black like a lot of the images here, but things like ace's post above me show just how beautiful the game would look with a much darker night. I feel, however, there's more to the graphics in the darker image than simply the shading on one side of the planet, but overall it looks way better darker, albeit probably a bit too dark for gameplay.

You know, those screenshots with water remind me when I played Blood Wake for the Xbox at night time. The water physics were second to none, and the graphics, now dated, do look obscenely good for it's time. PA looking similar is sort of inspiring.

People who prefer the lighter one simply have a different opinion. If you cannot understand that, then that explains a lot about how you debate ;)

I think we should continue bumping this thread until Uber relents. (at the very least, an option to have a 'true night mode')

I think so too. It was like this when they first introduced HDR, then they got cold feet. But I think they felt confident about it at first. (actually the original was better because you had the huuuuge adaptation margin from wide pupil, to very closed pupil, was great stuff, incredibly imersive, now completely gone from PA... I don't understand :( )

Anyways I'm not using Blogus' fix wich i linked to also in my mod thread.
