I have windows 8 pro 64 bit. I downloaded the PA Installer yesterday, and fought with it. I click the "PA Launcher" icon and the application starts up, but there is nothing there. Just the icon in the bar at the bottom of the screen. I can't enlarge it or anything. I have a AMD 5830(Sapphire)
Well it looks like your video card is pretty old, so make sure you have the latest drivers installed by going to support.amd to get the new ones. Also, if this does not work, press the windows key and the P key at the same time. A row of screens should pop up, choose the first one (computer only) if not already selected. if this does not fix the problem please respond
I have one monitor I'm having trouble with. I've turned that off and redid the dxdiag, if that helps at all.
I'm having the same issue. On a brand new Windows 8.1 Update (installed via Bootcamp on MacBook Pro). I used to run PA on my old Lenovo W510. I think I have the latest drivers, would not know how to find out if there are new ones for the Mac.
Your problem possible caused by outdated drivers: Code: Card name: Intel(R) Iris(TM) Pro Graphics 5200 Driver Date/Size: 12/12/2013 12:05:44, 12151296 bytes To update drivers download and install "win64_153318.exe" from Intel website: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23714
try running pa.exe directly (steamapps/common/Planetary Annhihlation) and see if it starts either windowed or maximized. If this still does not work, go to steam, then games library, right click on pa, click properties, and set launch options. Inside the box type setres - replace the dash with your monitors resolution('1920x1080' for example) and remove the quotes. If this does not work i think i have ran out of ideas.
Unfortunately no idea, but you can try to download game using this alternative launcher: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/alternative-go-launcher-build-for-windows.59287/ If this only problem in Uber Launcher game will work for you.
Sorry @KillerKiwiJuice ; I didn't see your comment. I must not have reloaded after posting. I didn't buy from steam, I bought from the website. After using the alternative launcher by @SXX (thank you!) I have the game downloaded. Now I get a error box: "Unexpected failure to initialize Coherent UI subsystem. Please contact support@uberent.com" The game is in the C:\ root and does this, no odd characters. I also tried running as admin and in various compat modes. Coherent_UI.log: 3208 22:05:22.194524 E | Starting process ""C:\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\stable\bin_x64\host\CoherentUI_Host.exe" --coherent-options=host-af16c4c8-225f-4d33-a8f4-856d8729188b" failed with error code 2 Any further suggestions?
Try to run executable from "bin_x86" directory. Sometimes it's less affected by affected by Coherent problems. You can as well try to run PA.exe with "--software-ui" launch option. Unfortunately it's mostly impossible to debug problems of Coherent and even devs can't do much about them.
No such luck. If you show me how to use the coherent debugger, I will hook it up for you. C:\Uber Entertainment\Planetary Annihilation\stable>PA.exe --coherent-log-level trace --coherent-allow-minidumps --log-threshold 4 Log from above command attached.
Unfortunately this debugger is for UI/JavaScript debugging and not for Coherent itself. Try it with "--coherent-log-level DEBUG". Before it's give a bit more of useful info.
Same thing happens, log file is just has a little less stuff in it because it only logs error messages, not trace(trace includes all messages above it in level, including debug)
Unfortunately it's didn't worked that way in previous Coherent versions, not sure about current one. So it's worth to check different error levels and run each of them multiple times because logs contents might be completely different.
oh haha that is kinda embarrassing. If you bought it on steam i would have it fixed in no time xD But honestly the last thing i could even suggest is to re install the game and try to run it then. That's as far as i can go i'm afraid. SXX would know more about this anyway.
Being an occasional player, I only just came back to this, and have since updated the drivers, but still the same behaviour.
