Hello, I've just started PA (or rather the launcher) again after quite a while. After the 7 0MB or so update the old and rather ugly launcher was replaced by this new and shiny one (yay so far). I proceeded to click on verify files to update the game, which is working nicely but almost immediately my PC got rather loud (physically, from the fans) as if I was already playing a game. A quick check in Process Explorer showed, that my GPU (HD 6850) was running at 100%. Checking further, GPU-Z also showed full 100% usage, and that the chip was running at max clock (i.e. was being used heavily). Whichever of those two is accurate, it's obviously way too much load for a launcher. While my internet connection is rather quick ad updated the game in a few minutes, others may have to run it for more extended times or simply forget the launcher while they do something else. There is no reason for it to consume that much GPU power. I played around with it some more: When the launcher is just open, it renders at a constant 60 fps (according to FRAPS). When minimized, it may only use about 20-25% of the GPU, but for some reason seems to render at however fast it can (about 3100 fps in my case, also according to FRAPS). What? Why!?
because that slipped by. Honest mistake, should be fixed, no promise when. hopefully everyone knows it though, the launcher is still fine to update and launch, but everyone should avoid having it open long periods if possible. Bypasses include searching gamma bugs subforum for SXXs Go Launcher, launching directly at pa.exe, launching from steam or pamm, and not using launcher xept for short downloads and launching immediately.
Yea, I know the update works fine and I don't even have to start using the launcher, but it doesn't really matter much when you're only in the launcher for a couple of seconds. So that's fine. I'm glad to know it's now known (or possibly it was already?), so that's good enough for me, thank you!
