What if each type of planet had its own special terrain modification setting? Currently all the planets have the same old settings, it would help give them their own unique character.
    Ice planets could have glaciers.
Desert planets could have sand dunes (with giant sandworms).
    Moons could have crater variation.
Lava planets could have volcanoes, lava flows and whatever else is volcanoey.
Tropical planets can have coral reefs.
    Earth-likes can have (flammable) forests.
And metal planets... Well they can have varying stages of completion!

Also maybe moons or planets that are too small to have an atmosphere and are close to an asteroid belt/field could be bombarded with meteorites (which can be shot down by any orbital unit that can shoot including Umbrellas) but I can already hear Brian yelling at me; "No! Random events bad!".

I really like the idea, especially the part about metal planets and its stages of completion :) They would become some sort of space junkyard, which is really cool :D Also I hope that Uber will add rivers filled with water or lava at some point.

This is simply an issue of content. All of this is possible now, it just requires more time for modelers and texturers to do their thing, then the appropriate blueprint changes to add them in. In fact (at least for viewing in the system editor), it's possible to mod these in yourself, with the exception of dune worms & various stages of completion for the metal planets.

Actually, various stages of completion could be mimicked by large subtractive CSG brushes. Still no ideas on the dune worms though :p
    websterx01 and aevs like this.

    OOH OHH!!

What about underwater tunnels so subs can travel under land masses? That makes subs useful!

Would definitely helps to spice things up, make game feel more dynamic, that you dont always know what to expect on planets.

Like Raevn said, it's simply a matter of content, not any kind of "flaw" with the underlying systems, in fact, the CSG PA uses for terrain and such is down right revolutionary all on it's own as is, nevermind once we get around to tapping it's full potential.

Do you think it would be possible to have moving land masses? That could be fun.

You can strap giant rockets to a moon so why not rip a continent off and stick giant rockets on that?

From my understanding that is beyond what CSG can do. CSG isn't a "dynamic" system.
