I think about 50% of the time I try to join a game or start a game from the main menu, I get the message FAILED TO RETRIEVE GAME LIST. This is pretty irritating of course. The game plays fine though once I get in. What causes this weird message? See screenshot.
To quote the comment in the code about it: It is called if either the ubernet call completely fails or parsing of the whole list fails. It seems that sometimes randomly happens. The handling could be more intelligent though and just retry, instead of the current "wait 5s and move back to the mainmenu" Maybe you could edit /PA/media/ui/main/game/server_browser/server_browser.js in line 430 and just remove the "wait 5s and move away from the list" so it will retry. Have not tested yet though. Gonna modify mine and see what it does.
I get this same thing on a regular basis although I would say its closer to 40% - I'm on the AU server, have a wired internet connection and run on windows 8.1 launching PA through steam.
I feel it randomly happens to do some sort of connection hickup. Gonna add a few log statements, maybe they show what's up.
Regardless of whether the internet connection is wired or wireless or crappy or good, it should work. Same as a webpage should load when you try load it. Very similar technology so, I just wanted to report that it is happening to me quite a bit and likely to many users. I am playing on AU server as well, with fiber optic connection 10mb/s up /down, and wifi connection to the router.
You are right you shouldn't be getting it. However, it limits what it could be by knowing what you are running off of. If they know for some reason it is one thing or another, they might be able to fix the "why".
Mine does this every single time I exit a game. I can't load the list after playing once, so I have to reboot the game entirely.. and then proceed to wait 15 minutes while it's 'checking manifest' every. single. time. Including the first time it runs. I've had this problem for quite a while, over several months of playing. I'm running Windows 7 using the Uber Launcher that auto-updated to 1.1.64928. I've got a 24(ish)MBit connection, so about 2-3mbyte/sec down and approx 1mbyte/sec upload. I've got a hard-wire connection, so that shouldn't be an issue. Being on skype call or not doesn't affect it whatsoever. I'm at a complete loss. ..what do? Edit'd because missing information
Didn't work. Said there was an update to the game after I logged in and gave me the options to ignore and quit. Couldn't ignore, button did nothing, so quitting game just.. closes game. No new windows, no update popup, nothing. Yeah. Nice update. After verifying for like 20 minutes it doesn't check manifest anymore, though so that's good. Not to say I wasn't able to play, but I did try this : Didn't change a thing. Error still remains. Doesn't matter since I still can't duo two normal AIs with a friend of mine. They're either too easy when going air first, or go ground first and we get wrecked at around minute 16 every single game. Pretty sad. We only played 5 games in a 5 hour period, not one lasting more than 20 minutes, one of them I couldn't even connect because the game locks up when rendering planet. Probably not even worth trying to fix if I can't even play to begin with. $250 value? Pff.. ._.
First the ignore button should work. Second what version of PA is your client currently? Can you verify your game files in the launcher?
When I clicked the ignore button, it pressed and unpressed, and the message didn't go away. That happens sometimes when I click join game too. It may be because of the password screen, but when I press 'join' on the password screen, it presses and... nothing happens. Window remains. It's weird. Hell, I even got a message saying the server for my area was down. IE the Central Americas server itself was down. This is what it said as my friend was in his lobby waiting for me. Wat? xD My PA client is version 64498. I can verify my files, yes, but it takes quite a while to do so. Just started a minute or so ago, so I can edit when finished. Edit : Just finished as I'm typing this so maybe 7~8 ish minutes.. it was much faster this time over last time.
7-8 min is still much longer than it takes for me. For the stable build 64498 should not show any version info message ingame. You sure you are not starting the pte build by accident?
I.. don't even know how to start the PTE build to begin with. My game shows the build at the top in the middle: The only mods I have activated are Profile Pic, System Sharing, Settings Manager, and the Enhanced System Preview. I have no idea what the last two do whatsoever, and only have them because they're requirements of System Sharing and Profile Pic. Edit : When I disable all mods in PAMM, it still shows the build in the same place, so I know it's not a mod thing.
I get this issue almost every time I finish a game and start another, my current quick fix is to close the game and start it up again.
