    This is Gamma Build 64498.
There are blue lines that are extending from all of my orbital units.

    (can't post image yet)

That's because you are playing as blue. ;)

They added a new feature that draws a line down from satellites using the team color. It helps you know where things in orbit are if you are just looking at the ground.

Is there a way to toggle that feature?

Not currently. There have been significant visual changes to them since the build that you guys have access too that makes them far less intrusive.

edit: actually you can turn them off by editing the base_orbital.json file.
    pa\media\units\orbital\base_orbital\base_orbital.json
    Delete the "orbital_offset":[...]

They also appear blue for currently selected orbital units.

The build that you guys got is from a number of days ago. Those lines are unfortunately setup with "programmer art" settings.

They'll look more like this in the next update.

I don't see much of a difference, am I missing something?

Colors in the current live build are team colored if it's an ally or your own unit unselected, blue if it's selected, and red if it's an enemy. It's a bit confusing. They can also get quite big on the screen when you zoom in.

Internally they're always team colored and change in brightness / style depending on selected, unselected, ally, or enemy. They're also always 1 pixel wide (with a small glow). Still more to work on here to get them looking right.

Idk how you managed that concept with this, but since you did you pretty much improved a whole metric buttload of orbital usage in this game. FTW! You guys win a battle over brutal game development with this fix.

I am genuinely amazed we got the "crappy" copy, I didn't think it got much better than this, I should have noticed the color thing earlier. I am eager now that I know "better than this" exists, now I want it!

Agreed, orbital is actually usable now! Whoever thought of this deserves a fancy beverage.

It's a concept that's been bantered around a number of times in the office, but it finally got hammered home by Eka, linike860 (Nick Baldwin), and myself. It was also waiting on some tech from varrak to implement properly.

I love the lines, I think it's a brilliant idea. It'd still be lovely if the orbital icons would get some sort of a boost to stand out some way from amongst a sea of ground layer icons though. It's mainly an issue when the camera is looking at them from above though.

Can I ask what kind of planet that is? It looks a lot like the jungle biome you guys showed as concept art way back when.. (Though I don't tend to play forest biome often so I might be mistaken.)

It's just an earth planet with a low radius.

    another thing:
the strategic icons should not be hidden if the satellite's position is behind the horizon, even if you can still see the unit model. The position line now shows that the unit is behind the horizon.
