Internal Playtest – Balance Changes, New Models, and More – 4/21

    This is actually very important when you micro your units. For example if you want to split your sniperbots quickly to dodge sheller shots, you need very quick and precise mouse movements and selection. If you have selection box then you have obvious and easily comprehensible space on your monitor that you have selected. In case it's circle it might act weird or be unpredictable and thus much slower. I don't say it's going to be necessarily bad but it feels like unnecessary change and getting used to very fast precise mouse selection of units might take weeks or even months. I just don't see a reason why competitive players would suddenly have to practice new type of dragging, just because it looks cool? What's the advantage of it?

    Uhhmm... I don't think the shape of the selection icon has any kind of effect on how you select your units. The actual area on which you can click to select your units is probably still a square (at least that's the way it usually is like).

    It's all just about aesthetics.

    Your selection box is still a box, the outline around each unit you have selected is now a circle.

    Misunderstanding aside, this is clear discrimination between a Aryan, Unilateral race and a supposedly inferior Quadrilateral race

    what are you guys all rambling about with the box/circle, if you watch the video you can see clearly that the selection is still a box, just the selection indicator below the units is a circle now...

    I wonder how this affects things like the leviathan though.

    Hopefully for the better, T2 ships have terribly oversized selection fields.

    Same goes for Orbital. It's a pain to select ships or orbital units.

    To be fair, orbital units are hard to select because they're difficult to see, which will (hopefully) be remedied by the light pillars.

    Naval units are hard to select because they're hitboxes are so damn big that clicking on a bot on shore near a T2 ship is nigh impossible.

    Out of all the unilateral shapes, how many of them are not conical?

    How come we call a x sided shape a xlateral?

    I kinda wish selection boxes checked if a unit's origin point (or whatever point the icon is centered on) was inside the selection instead of checking if a larger volume intersects the selection box, e.g. the centremost point of a large ship would need to be inside the selection box in order to select it. Of course, then you have to differentiate between a 'click' selection and a box selection, but I don't think that's too hard (and I think judging a 'click' selection by the closest unit origin is a better method than going by volumes as well).

    That's how I would do it anyway, especially for a game with such a focus on unit icons.

    Using the overlap of a volume selects all 3 units.
    Requiring the complete inclusion of a volume selects the top left.
    Using the inclusion or exclusion of the origin points (where the unit icon is located) selects the top 2 units, which is the method I think would work best.

    Did anyone notice how one of the planets is called pun20? Pretty close to 420 :)
