I'm playing PA on a 3 year old laptop. It cost around 800 euro OS included.
    Specs:
    i5-2410m @2.3 GHz
    NVIDIA GT540m 1GB DDR3
    4GB RAM
    W7 64b
    1600x900

I should add this machine is barely running it, RAM is often maxed out on bigger systems and it does lag when there are a couple hundred units moving. And it's already on lowest settings.
But is still runs it decently imo.

PS: Some people just NEED a laptop, like me. I would have minimum use for a desktop due to moving a lot.
(I just had to add that since some people don't seem to get why you'd prefer a laptop)
PS²: I am prob going to buy a new laptop this summer with a GTX 765m 8GB RAM and an i7-4700mq for +-1000 euro.

    And desktops are more portable?

Sometimes it's better to sacrifice that tiny bit of portability and deal with it.

I have no clue how dire the OP's need for that portability is in combination with the required specs.

It's quite significant portability. The advantage of the laptop is it fits in a backpack with other stuff, and it runs off its own power.

Yeah. The one thing about all these threads is the OP never says why they want a laptop and not a desktop.

I guess I just give them the benefit of the doubt with how much they know.

No, I am just stating facts. With the limitations of a PC Laptop, you should expect to spend a thousand or more, and have to cater to all kinds of problems which we have de-facto stated here.

I play console brah because it is more balanced per player, everyone plays on a controller no matter what your opinion is on how crappy that controller is because everyone plays on it. Best for shooters.

On a PC, you play a shooter, you turn the graphics down to prevent freak incident fps spikes, which makes the game look worse, and then you play and see half the people obviously play with SOMETHING, rich kid hardware, third party software, it is literally like you are playing at a disadvantage, and it only lasts so long before you go play a game you are at least slightly more on even ground in.

But, I would rather get this, than a laptop. Interchangeable upgradeable parts, more breathable, less driver issues, less manufacturer locks, more power for less price, these are facts.

If it were me, I use consoles for specific games since they tend to be a more sheltered working environment, I use PC for the wide variety of time consuming games you can mod and goof off playing and such, I use the weakest laptop or just my cell phone actually to browse internet on the go and play really small games (by which I mean tetris, I love tetris), and I just don't see too much in the way of "powerful tablets" as what you do on tablets is suitable for weak tablets and what exactly does a "strong" tablet do? Same with a laptop to less a degree, a strong tablet will play high games on low settings and present longterm overheating and upgrade issues, while a mid-power pc will play the same with no longterm issues.

I would very much recommend going with a laptop. I have a MSI GT70 with a core i7, a nvidia GtX 670MX and 12 gbs of ddr3 memory. I love this laptop! It is very nice to be able to bring my games everywhere with me.... again spend the extra and go with a laptop!!!!

as a user of a gaming laptop, i know ;). I just want to point out (thoroughly) that if the guy has a proper choice, he should get a good desktop.

But yea now i am really curious about the portability need.

(i have an MSI GTX660 with Radeon Mobility 5850 and i5 and 4Gb ram. In hindsight, i wouldve gotten i7 + at least 6gb RAM)

a quick google later but, that's like an 1800 euro laptop?!

I hope that cousin realizes that PA is an online-only game at the moment. And even if wifi is available, it needs to be fast and stable. 2 Mbit/s minimum, I believe.

I can run it on 1mbps, which is terrible, but this doesn't require first person shooter internet speed.

At any rate, if I run TS3 on that connection with PA, it really starts being a bandwidth bottlenecked slideshow nightmare. Do not recommend it. God where is Comcast when you need them? God why do we live in a world where we need those terrible Comcast people?
