After a few days of trying out different assault builds, I have decided that there is not one assault build that is best at everything. If you are one of the players that says "My build is best." I am happy to inform you that you are wrong. I have noticed a few builds, after damage and survivability tests, that stand out above the rest depending on the circumstances. Without further ado, here are my recommended builds with their best-case scenarios: Hit-n-run Assault: Accuracy/RoF/Crit Due to the lack of armor on this build, it is recommended that you take enemies out from long range. The increased accuracy is much better than gold RoF in my opinion. If you prefer a higher RoF for your GL, switch RoF and Accuracy around. Before someone rants about how the accuracy makes it harder to take out close range targets, I would like to say that I tested gold accuracy vs. silver, bronze, and default accuracy. The difference between the four levels at close range is by about four bullets. That is also with my human error included in those results. That means that they are about the same for close-range combat. This build is best used to take out enemies outside of their effective range. You will cut through bronze accuracy gunners at medium-long range with ease. Don't let anyone get the jump on you, you will die quickly. Main Slayer Assault Armor/RoF/Accuracy Basic build. Can take high amounts of damage and survive most surprise attacks. Not much to say because it is a very common build. The no-armor assaults can cut through enemy pros quicker, but you can take more damage. Keep this in mind. Scout Assault: Accuracy/RoF/Armor I have had a good amount of luck with this build. I can survive most surprise attacks and people are afraid to get near me because of my long-range and high RoF. You can also have that little bit of health necessary to survive most long range attacks with time to get away. Very effective in the right situations. I often like to go on a spree with this build. Ex: On Spunky Cola, go back and forth between the L bridges. Use the ejectors to get tons of bot and pro kills. Use your GL when on the enemy L bridge to grenade their turrets and you can bounce grenades down their hallway as well when you are at the proper angle. If you get low on health, retreat into your base immediately and heal up. Then go on another spree. Close Range Assault: Armor/RoF/Clip or Critical The close range assault is very deadly in the right situations. Your high armor and RoF can be great for taking enemies down quickly and surviving. Clip or Crit can go into bronze depending on play style. There is no accuracy in this build because it is made for close range combat. Don't try to fight long range because you will probably lose because you are out of your effective range. HIGH DMG ASSAULT: Crit/RoF/Clip, Accuracy, or Armor This build has had its ups and downs with me. Really good in the right situations, horrible in the wrong situations. You will have critical shots and those critical shots will do great damage; however if you run Clip instead of accuracy, you need to watch your health because a lot of players run at least bronze accuracy and they will easily beat you at long range. You also need to watch out at close range when fighting Gold armor individuals. If you run accuracy, use your secondary abilities to your advantage to weaken the opponent. Running bronze armor makes you much better at close range because you can take more damage and get more hits in on the other person. Try all three to see what works for you. These are the builds that have worked out to be great for me. See what works for you. I don't keep all of these in my custom builds at one time. I really like to switch them out every once in a while. Some of these builds do better against certain classes and builds than others. Gold and Silver RoF are not that different when it comes to the assault rifle. I prefer gold accuracy because of this. I have found that sometimes I need to be up close and personal with opponents. If this is the case, scrap accuracy and use an armor build instead. You can do much more damage that way because you have armor and that gives you more time to shoot instead of retreat.
I really wanted to ask this but what does Armour actually do?? Other than making you survive grapples (if on silver, gold)
I plan to play around with skill regen next. As of now, these seem to be the most practical builds. One thing you could try though is Accuracy/RoF/Skill Regen and see how that works for you. I was wanting to try that one myself. I was thinking that a person could throw more bombs and stuff in the game, but still take people outside of their effective range. If you wanted a more close-range version of that, you could sway accuracy for armor and try to get more head crabs with the bombs.
I like to use rof/acc/clip. I hate having to use an armour build even though i do have to use it sometimes. I find that without armour my AR is excellent at killing everything, i just die very easy if i dont watch my back and seeing as i play a lot with randoms i cant rely on my team.
I highly recommend that you flip accuracy and RoF around if you don't use your grenade launcher that much. I find that Gold and Silver RoF are pretty much the same on the AR. I prefer the extra accuracy so I can hit people outside of their effective range.
Why would you use bronze crits on the assault? You get a +1% chance & damage for criticals. The assault rifles default clip size is 25, meaning with bronze critical you will only see your criticals activating one more time every four clips. Whereas with clip size, you get a 40% larger clip (35 bullets, 10 more than normal) allowing for less reloading, more chances for crits in one clip etc.
Hostile.ini file. And it's not from the wiki, its from my game files. (PC Version) Clip size endorsements don't need the exact numbers because you can just count how many bullets are in your clip.
I had been led to believe that crits also increase the damage each crit does, also the chaining of crits probably results in more than 1% of the those bullets being additional crits
Xeno uses bronze crit. I heard he does okay with it. Although he has said that it doesn't really matter, it's just what he's used to.
This thread is pretty cool since it's short and to the point. I've been play testing the Assault in down time and haven't really found anything to stick with. I want to play more than just two or three classes and this thread is actually pretty simple so I like it. I think I might try a couple builds out.
